How long before United has to confirm or change this order?

Anything can be changed, all it takes is money.

The sim is supposed to arrive at TK soon. But that doesn't really mean anything. I have no idea on the lead time for bids, maintenance, and parts. The 1000, which is what we have ordered has only recently entered flight test. Deliveries wont' be till next year.

I know that doesn't really answer the question, but there is time yet.

I'm a bit confused about the A350 order due to a few things. Maybe someone can clear it up for me(us)
1. I've read the A350 has a non compatible crew facility. If so, how is it viable, and how do the other carriers deal with it?

2. Are there any plans to schedule it where it doesn't require a global crew compliment?

Thanks,
M

1) Yup, it has been suggested that there's a FAR 117 problem with the 350. Since no other US carrier has it (yet) there is no official solution but apparently it will need a FAA waiver. Note that the UAL pilot contract is a bit different than DAL's and AA's on that topic.

2) Really no point in buying an expensive long range airplane and then not using internationally.

From what I understand, it is not a Part 117 issue. It's more of a contractual issue. I do not know any specifics.

The facility on the Delta A350's is very nice. Two large bunks each private and a business class seat with area for changing. Right behind the cockpit in the overhead. Much better then our A330 facility.

The United MEC was briefed several months ago on the A350 crew rest facility from the crew rest oversight committee. They stated that the A350 isn't 117 compliant and their management counterparts agreed. They stated Airbus was unwilling to correct deficiencies. Additionally it was stated that the UAL contract was stronger compared to DAL & AA on this issue. UAL can refuse to fly augmented per the CBA but due to weaker language most likely DAL & AA & their unions will mostly apply for a waiver from FAA.
