Commuting to EWR from ?
 

Following my probationary year spent in PA, we are looking at relocating. I know it will make me a commuter but I am willing to accept it.
The question is Atlanta or Orlando?
I am just throwing it out there and any input is appreciated - sarcastic or sincere.
I used this forum last year and ended up in Doylestown, PA and enjoyed it.

MCO has literally hundreds of EWR commuters, most of whom have better seniority than a guy just off probation. Add to that the numbers of employees burning vacation passes to take the family to the magic kingdom.....

It'll be a challenge.

ATL may be a better prospect as there seems to be an increase in mainline flying between EWR and ATL.

But, driving to work as opposed to flying would be the least stressful option.

Been commuting to EWR/LGA from MCO since hired 2 years ago and have never had an issue. There are numerous airlines and flight options.

What about EWR from either BOS or MHT? My google-foo shows about 10 flights a day mainline from EWR to BOS, and another 3 flights from MHT to EWR on Express, but I don't know how full those flights normally are, how many other UAL pilots live in that area and are trying to get to work as well.

Many of the EWR based guys that I flew with from Boston/Providence/Cape Cod would drive to work.

It's doable, but be forewarned:

1) There are lots of commuters (pilot & FA)

2) When EWR goes tango uniform the first flights to be culled are close in routes like BOS with lots of frequency.

Take the two together and understand that when things go sideways, they really go.

I've never carried a jumpseaters from BOS-EWR or back that had a date of hire after about 1990.

I did the commute from ATL to IAD which was a Nightmare. Then did the ATL to EWR, a bit better. I never missed an assignment, but I did sweat a lot. I finally took the plung and moved to base. I now drive and my car has never left without me.

MHT is tough. Lots of commuters and Express pilots get cockpit jumpseat priority.

BOS not easy but doable; at least you can drive or train it if you have to and there are multiple carriers serving it. As stated above, a ton of senior commuters.

MHT is almost unusable do to the 37 seat props and low frequency...BOS is okay, but come late morning, all the wide-body guys are headed to work. I am pretty junior, I have had to call scheduling twice now...great place to live though ;)

If you "enjoyed it" why would you leave for a lifetime of commuting?

I did Greyhound once. Living the dream. Seriously though Boston can be a breeze one week and a disaster the next. Keep an eye out for college breaks. LGA and shuttle is there when really in a pinch. At least the Q400's are gone, that was an epic fail.

How about TPA-EWR? Anybody have any feedback? Thinking about the FL life....you know, sun, boats, and old people.

I will be in that commute starting here in a few weeks. I have been told it's horrible , having been flying for Jetblue for the last 4 years. I commonly flew TPA-EWR, and we always have United guys coming with us that say if it wasn't for jetblue they would never get to work, problem is jetblue currently only has 2 flights a day. Not too much to choose from , always can use LGA and JFK as back ups but man those airports aren't really close.

Been told Orlando is easier cause of the amount of flights
