I don't doubt for one second that the why/how/what's next has been explained to him to a great detail, and that he was offered a pretty decent compensation for his temporary inconvenience.
You are tool of the week for writing this. The guy paid for a ticket. He should get to ride. I hope he sues the airline. If I were on the jury I would vote to award a generous settlement. I'm sure if you had to be someplace and paid for a ticket that you would be the most gracious passenger ever as evidenced by your mature and adult like posts on this forum.

You see, there's a fine print when you buy any airline ticket on any carrier that you may get involuntarily bumped and compensated for it. By purchasing a ticket, you agree to those terms.

The #resist chicken-littles out there make it sound like a few thugs just came onboard, smashed the guy's face and then dragged him off the plane when all he simply said was no. I'm pretty sure that United CSA's explained to him the situation and then subsequently ops supervisor as well. But no one filmed that part...

Could it have been handled better? I think so... perhaps getting involuntary bumps not board in the first place? But once told you are being involuntarily bumped for compensation in accordance with terms and conditions of your ticket, and then throwing a tantrum over it delaying a flight for hours and having to get dragged off the plane.... nope, no sympathy whatsoever.
I don't know why he has to be a snowflake. I've seen plenty of people in the non-snowflake category do way worse. Just because you don't like like what he did, doesn't make him a snowflake. I've seen Marine officers in uniform dressing down gate agents for cancelled flights and trying to incite riots. Everyone in airports are lunatics when things don't go their way, the toughest people to the safest spaces.

You're obviously not familiar with the policy. If someone doesn't volunteer for $800 then you offer more until someone does. This was completely unnecessary.

Yup. It doesn't even require half a brain to reach this conclusion. Some of my fellow Americans are really really really dumb. It's good we're in decline. As a society and culture we're far too stupid to be world leaders any longer.

Let's look at the policy then:

https://www.united.com/web/en-us/con...age.aspx#sec25

I see there are roundtrip tickets for around $200 on that route, and they offered $800?

Because this type of behavior reflects the one of a self-entitled snowflake. Yes, the passenger was inconvenienced unfortunately, but when he bought the ticket, he accepted the contract of carriage.

I agree it was handled rather poorly as they should have gotten their involuntary bumps at the gate, and not at the plane. But the passenger was in the wrong...

But he does if he's a pilot. I love his claim above that any passenger who PAYS for a seat is self-entitled when expecting that seat. Amazing. And dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb. (cue South Park muisic)

Actually I do... aside from just hanging a left, I voluntarily push wheelchairs to help our ops agents, escort UM's, give cockpit tours to our youngest passengers and put them in positions for their parents to take great pictures of them... who knows, they may end up joining our ranks. I try to make light of any situation where my passengers got inconvenienced and so far I've been very successful to the point that I've received written praises due to passenger feedback.

But what I don't do is knowingly violate manuals and regulations.

Again, we only have the very last part of the incident with the passenger getting dragged off the plane. I'm interested to see what you guys would have done given the constraints in your manual. Would you go against it? Would you go outside or against the procedures outlined in your manual? How would you have handled it given the constraints?
