You got me. I made a mistake. I don't spend enough time on this website to have noticed the two different usernames. Clearly I have demonstrated how liberalism is far superior to conservatism.

By the way, just because I disagree with far-left thinking, that doesn't mean that liberals can't read or think. There are plenty of smart liberals. I just happen to think that their world view is extremely misguided. By constantly denigrating conservatives as illiterate morons, you're simply fueling the energy that elected Trump. Also, consider the fact that many of the trump voters had previously voted for Obama. Reconcile that fact.

It is the maximum REQUIRED for an IDB. Not the Max allowed.

United (UAX) could have and should have paid whatever it took to get 4 volunteers. Delta routinely goes up to $1500 (and above) to get volunteers.

It would have been a lot "cheaper" than this mess they created.

What's an "aviation security officer" (one of the news articles refers to them)? In the video I see what looks like 2 police officers but the guys that ripped the pax from the seat are in jeans and some kind of polo shirt. I guess these are the security officers. I've never seen this before. Something UAL has?

A few years ago on reserve I was called out to DH to Boston. When I got to the gate they had to pull 2 off to get me and another DHer on the flight. I wound up in a seat next to the business partner of the one of the guys pulled. He was not happy with me. I told him I understood but was just doing what the company told me to do.

If I ever find myself in that situation again I may just let the flight push without me and tell sked it was gone when I got to the gate after seeing this.


BTW in my days at Republic j4j their crew sked would give you a dh and never get seats for you. You'd have to rely on the agent or call sked at the gate to solve the problem. By that time they were already boarding.

Didn't have this problem once I returned to us air however since the changeover to AA ops I've had this happen three times. And I'm not on reserve being called out to dh. These are DH flights built into a regular line. I've had to call from the gate each time. That's the last time I'm doing that. From now on if I show for a dh and there is no listing for the flight I'm going to sit there and call sked after the push.

RAH's union (Teamsters) has been adamant about not taking the jumpseat when pilots are PS. Years back, it was assumed they would do it and it lead to a lot of issues.

What a lot of people are forgetting in this incident is that the plane was flown by Republic. And while I've seen a lot of people saying that the pilots should have done something, the pilots are probably already in trouble for this. Had they acted and made a PA or something, they would have been dragged into Indy and danced for their job. Given that it sounds like they did nothing, they will be dragged into Indy and dancing for their job. RAH is a bloodthirsty company and someone will be made an example here.

1. Truthfully explain the situation to the passengers. Explain what the situation is and why it exists and when they can realistically expect to get to Louisville and an idea of where they will be staying overnight.

2. Offer more money to get someone to volunteer.

3. Repeat (2) until the number of seats needed are opened up. Everybody has a price but I'm pretty sure someone would have bit before it got to $2000.

4. Apologize to everyone on board for the inconvenience.

5. Fulfill the deal made with the displaced passengers and throw in a dinner voucher or something extra for their trouble. Then thank them profusely for their help.

This isn't advanced aerodynamics or rocket science. It's basic common sense and treating people with courtesy and respect and giving them the facts needed to make an informed decision. But it depends on employees being empowered to solve problems and I suspect that this may have been an issue here.

If, at the end of it all, no volunteers can be found, announce that anyone displaced will be given cash plus a couple of free round trips, plus a hotel plus dinner.

Default The hub and spoke level of service...

Lately United has become a chore to tolerate. I sometimes fly to China with them to start rotations.

The lack of crew and support / logistics make transport to major hubs miserable.

The " Friendly Skies ", makes me want to lose my breakfast, and the greed, and mediocrity, become more and more evident in this regional model.

Sad, however as long as there are pilots that fly for 500usd/ week net, the decay and erosion will continue.

Safe journeys...( unless dead head crews are misplaced ),
