You go back there and end up on you tube trying to mediate the bickering between an amped-up UNITED gate agent and an amped-up passenger who barely speaks your language. The passenger tells you he is not leaving. You get a little amped-up yourself and say something really smart or really stupid to him and it gets recorded and posted on YouTube within 30 seconds. The clip then appears on Reddit 5 minutes after that. The agent eventually complains to her team lead, who eventually tells their ORD manager that you interfered with the agent. Republic's headquarters is called, and early Monday morning you wake up to voicemails from the chief asking for you to call her back regarding a ridiculous YouTube video of you from last night and other questions. You are eventually deadheaded to Indianapolis for "just a talk".

B.
If you follow the rules given to you every year in recurrent.......

You call for United's trained "conflict resolution official" described in your flight manual. When the UNITED ops person on the radio has no idea what you are talking about, you write down the time of that transmission for easier recall while writing your report. You then request ops to send a United supervisor to come and assist the gate agent.

If you are in an outstation where all UNITED gate agents have been laid off, you ask if there is ANY UNITED employee available that can assist the gate agent.

If the situation rises to a level 2 threat, you continue to follow the flight manual.

C.
If you are a fan of Einstein. You remember a quote of his in situations like this: “A clever person solves a problem. A wise person avoids it.”

As soon as the flight attendant says that the UNITED agent or UNITED supervisor has called the police, you make a PA informing the passengers that a warning message popped up on your instruments that will take about an hour to fix. You tell the passengers that you don't want them to to be sitting on the aircraft longer than necessary while the indication is eventually fixed, so you ask everyone to gather their belongings and deplane the aircraft. You remind them highly trained representatives from United Airlines will be happy to answer any questions they have in the gate area. You also tell them you will be available for any questions in the jet-bridge.
If anyone asks you what the message on the screen is.... it is STEER OFF.

When the plane is cleared out, and you've answered people's questions, you check the radar again for SDF, take a seat in first, call your wife, and invite her to tell you all about her day.

Madcow wins the internet for the day!

And if you call the cops expect force, so you better be right when you call them.

Exactly. Inept gate agents and overreacting police officers don't qualify as NTSB reportable events.

DC8....You get it!

For some segments of American society it has pretty much always been that way.

You seriously think police violence (like this, not shootings) has gotten worse? Were you not around when cops delivered beatings in lieu of arrest?

This canard keeps getting repeated despite even UA saying it's not true. He was boarded and you can't retroactively "unboard" a passenger, you have to go to Rule 21. Of course, he didnt fit any of the "refuse to transport" rules, so just call the cops and break the contract of carriage.

Don't hand off the "boarding process" nonsense; there is no definition of "boarding" in the contract, do it reverts to the plain meaning of the term. He was issued a pass, was entered into the manifest as boarded, he was boarded. If you want throw the crew are reserved passengers, they should be denied boarding because they didn't meet the timeliness standard for close-out--too late, so sorry.

Default Racist Political Media Bias

This isn't the first time a passenger was wrestled off an airliner at the gate.

But what do you think; if the miscreant that refused to follow the direction of law enforcement had been... a skinny 20 something white guy wearing an Bud Lite wife beater with an NRA ball cap, would we still be talking about this?

Ladies and gentlemen, this horse is officially dead and has been hauled off to the glue factory by the MSM. The passenger who was bitten by a scorpion is getting as much coverage than Mr Dao - and it ain't much. The subject will be momentarily and halfa$$ resurrected after market close Monday/premarket Tuesday when UAL reports 1Q earnings/has the quarterly conference call. But I'm sure some here will continue to prattle on, akin to going to Walmart and beating on bottles of Elmer's glue. Save the fabricated SJW outrage for the next airline incident - it's right around the corner.
