Regional to Majors

Hey guys, sorry if this is a dumb question, but how hard is it to start working for United if you're currently working for Envoy or some other regional that doesn't feed into United?

As I understand it, when you work for Envoy, you go straight to American without any additional interviews and they give you preference in the hiring process; same thing with Expressjet and United. If my end goal was getting a job at United and I had the choice of starting with either Envoy or Expressjet today, how long would it take me to get there going each route? (I realize this is a difficult question to answer precisely, really I just want some kind of comparison).

Thanks in advance.

Expressjet has a guaranteed interview not a flow and it will be a long time

I don't know why anyone would go to ExpressJet today. The writing is on the wall. Skywest has shrunk their stepsister to half its old size and it just appears it'll get worse. 9 year FOs or something like that. Really sucks for the pilot group. It'll take a while for people to get to United through the program with XJT, and you still have to meet certain requirements and pass the Hogan (I believe). If you're choosing between those two airlines alone, I'd recommend envoy.

Far from guaranteed interview. Guaranteed shot at the hogan...we all know what can happen after that.

You have the degree, now it's time to get the other largest box checked.

Go to whatever regional will provide the quickest upgrade to captain.

Or start networking, volunteering, and going to job fairs. It's proven itself effective.

Do both! Don't bank on any kind of flow-through helping you. I swear they just do these so people won't quit the regionals.

Agreed on the both part.

As far as the XJT CPP goes, true story.

And hey, that sick call rate last summer was an all time low!!!

Can't....quite....reach......carrot......

almost 7 years at envoy and now at United- they don't really care where you come from. Make your resume strong.
