ATTA Boy

The UAL MEC Grievance and Compensation folks did great work on that pay audit. How in the world did they make this happen?

I got an email from them telling me how much I was going to receive. I was shocked. After numerous emails and phone calls back in 2015 I got so frustrated with crew pay and the CPO staff that I just stopped talking to them and really, just gave up. My new motto "No pay- No work." The shameful way VDO pay was handled when they were short staffed and begging pilots to fly was horrible, especially considering they didn't want to pay the pilots who had already performed the work.

Only way to get full value for our contract is to insist upon proper payment for services rendered.

The pay process should be transparent and easy to understand.

Thanks UAL MEC Compensation Committee. Thanks for the hard work and the communication.

Wonder how many slick ties will realize the importance of unified ALPA now?

Exactly none. If they haven't gotten a clue by now, I'd say there's no hope.

The Grievance Chairman turned MEC Master Chairman has done SO much for this group, it really IS amazing.

Your best post. Too bad that the first two sentences are so bloody true.

What constituted the bulk of the payroll shortages? Was it an interpretation issue of the new contract, VDOs, SRM?? I don't get it. How did so many people have incorrect pay and didn't know?

take the petty jump seat and regional bickering to another thread.

I did email the compensation and grievance people and I personally called to say thank you.

It was more than just contract "interpretation." I can say that on the CAL side, for as long as I have been a pilot there the pay role system was onerous on purpose. The lack of transparency was done so by Debbie McCoy and Fred Abbot.

Over the years I would record my phone conversations with CAL payrole and on more than one occasion the pay clerk was quoting a memo by Abbot on why they did it this way, or that way. I asked for a copy of the memo and memos. Shortly after that, I would get a call from an ACP telling me to leave it alone.

After the merger I noticed a shift in transparency. Just a shift. More and more L-UAL folks were asking the same questions. However, the force multiplier was ALPA. Sure, CAL was ALPA, but it lacked leverage to drive results.

I noticed that the L-UAL ALPA folks took this from the JV level to the varsity level in terms of contract enforcement. The maturity, professionalism, and dogged-tenacity were simply no match for management.

The whole thing was a cluster-F. I knew the company owed me about 2 grand. I did some VDO flying. I was re-buffed at every level by pay role and CPO. I lost track of how many ground-pounders I had disagreeable words with. They treated me like it was "their money." Nice to be treated now like it was my money, and in reality, the pilot group's money.

Well done Grievance Committee! It's interesting how a difference in perspective is always instructive. For someone to refer to the current system as any form of the word "transparent" speaks volumes about what it used to be. Wow.

Of the half dozen or so pilots with whom I discussed this, all are getting a check. Is that everyone else's experience, and if so doesn't that mean the company was under paying virtually every pilot?!?

If that is true all I can say is I intend to "audit" my own pay way more closely from now on!

Not necessarily. 3.5 hours (or prorated if not on the lot the entire 2014/15 period) is given to every pilot. But saying that, I do think there was a ton of screw ups. I caught mistakes all the time and I'm still getting almost 5K. Hate to see what i lost out on before 2014.

I'd just like to mention that the title of this thread infuriates me. I know the intent was to give ALPA kudos for a good deed. I can't help but think of the monster responsible for killing a bunch of our people.

Sorry to be the wet blanket. Carry on.

Never forget.

For all the Airbus folk out there, did they say how they are going to pay us our 2 minutes per flight going forward?
