My response would be

1.) if the deciding factor on the profitability of an airframe is the cost of the crew, you probably shouldn't buy it
2.) pilots don't buy airplanes
3.) you say you want to compete with Delta, guys what they're bringing to mainline
4.) how much did the Dr Dao incident cost United in bad press etc, when it occurred on a regional aircraft... and how many years of savings flying those RJs did it destroy?

Now comes early section 6 coinciding with a couple references to a reduction in mainline flying if their demands aren't met.
The stick.

They'll have grand plans for which RJ's are essential. Updated mainline/rj ratios will be proposed. How many of you new hires were frustrated being stuck at the regionals/military for ten years or longer during the great regional experiment? How many of you are tired of seeing substandard service at the regionals? How many of you are tired of getting kicked off a jumpseat on OUR routes? Lower boarding priority on a regional flight on OUR routes? GMAB

If management does not possess the skills to operate those planes as mainline, then I guess we should shrink. It doesn't look good on their resume though. It's time to leave this profession in a better position then many of us found it.
They want more 175 RJs and are capped currently. Kirby has spoken about Delta killing us in these 175 type cities and that is where we need to close gap. Of course carrot of it being tied to mainline growth is also always through out there.

12500+ pilots at United.
About 30-50 post on this thread on a (regular) basis.
That is LESS than 1%! (about .4%)

So lets not worry about "negotiating" in public.

This forum (like so many others) are just a way to vent and post an opinion.
In the big scheme of things.. means nothing~

Just 'my' opinion

The memory of those RJ's invading our system still nauseates me. Scope choke is working. Nothing is stopping them buying the planes for us to fly. It's not personal, it's business.

Agreed, but I never under estimate the amount of pilots that can't see the forest from the trees and love $$$.

I submit that one-quarter of the current list would vote to relax scope with only minimal saber-rattling and threats by the co. Kirby knows this. Now, all he has to do is convince the next 26 percent. Sometimes, pigs do fly.

Fortunately we have a strong MC who knows better.

This cherry dose of pessimism is brought to you by the past.

What needs to happen is a VERY STRONG NO immediately. So he can move on to other options.

Just flew with a TK instructor. Could not have been more glowing about Munoz/Kirby presentation at TK and the follow through of request for early openers. Buyer beware to say the least. Not blaming MEC for accepting offer, but HIGHLY skeptical this is good thing. And for record JH did a fabulous job with extension.

I too attended one of the LCA meetings. Kirby talked for an hour and mentioned lots of things, but all I heard was he needs scope relief. Unfortunately I also heard a lot of people who were impressed, I was not one of them.
