Too bad Boeing or Airbus doesn't make an airplane capable of filling this gap our management has discovered. They have spent millions developing aircraft and researching markets worth flying too but our crack team has found a hole in their theory ... That is sarcasm for the overly dense bunch. If they don't make it we probably don't need it. All these low cost carriers (with almost double our profit margins) are able to fill 230 seat airbuses without regional feed, on routes that we have flown 50 seat rj's on for years. Develop the market, throw a 737 or bus on it, and redeploy the rj to smaller markets. The 50 seater isn't a product anyone can be proud of. Why expand the mission of the 70 seater to something that no one wants, needs, or regionals can staff?

Social media is a tool for communication - both good and bad.
At Delta social media was instrumental in shooting down the turd known as TA-1 for contract 15. I strongly believe that all Pilot groups are better off for this since it sent a strong message to all airline management that the days of BK concessions are over.
Good luck UAL Pilots!

Kirby and management must be smoking something if they think they can add more RJ's... all regionals cant staff today. They will never beable to staff future RJ's flying at the regionals.... the manpower is just not there. With future hiring plans at all 3 legacies, SWA,JB,FEDEX,UPS the regionals will cease to exist. I thought managements everywhere knew this.. I guess not, can someone please ask this question on the next management meeting if they are pushing for relaxing scope how they plan on staffing RJ's for relaxed scope? thx

Just flew with a TK instructor. Could not have been more glowing about Munoz/Kirby presentation at TK and the follow through of request for early openers. Buyer beware to say the least. Not blaming MEC for accepting offer, but HIGHLY skeptical this is good thing. And for record JH did a fabulous job with extension.

Plenty. Too much to type. I suggest that you search this forum for all the arguments. You'll need several malt beverages once you find the threads.
Basically, (as I now recall) the union suggested that there were a few things that could be improved upon (in the short term) in exchange for a nice raise. Those specific items were listed as bullet points and were said to be inviolate and necessary in order to enter into the talks. Then, Mother U pushed back on reserve rules and told us to pound sand. Miraculously and in spite of what the union said initially, the extension proposal was quickly presented to the membership and then ratified by 72 or 73 percent.
Yes, I voted no and was vocal about it. There were plenty of union reps who also thought it was a bad idea. At this point, it's just dirty water long under the bridge.
Its a bit ironic that here we are now and suddenly everyone is gooey about opening section 6 early. We could have opened it up two years ago, when the company really needed relief from our work rules to fly the 787 on the ultra long, potentially ultra profitable 787 routes. Of course, we GAVE that away for the extension. It was like trading a nice waterfront home for a doublewide in a trailer park. Pfffffft.
