Advice on a jumpseat issue.

Hey guys. I'm a Captain at Frontier and recently on a flight from DEN to PHX and the guy next to me was a little drunk. He wasn't saying anything really inappropriate, but was talking about his affairs with many women and whatnot. I'm in my pilot outfit and I'm sure the people around us thought I was a United pilot listening to this conversation with him. I eventually just put my earphones in and told the flight attendant that I didn't want anyone to think I was enjoying this guys conversation. I just didn't want anything to look bad for Frontier commuters. She knew the guy I was talking about and understood. I just wanted to know if anyone thinks I should write your jumpseat commitee in this day and age of what's going on.

Not picking up what your laying down.... was the drunk loudmouth a UAL pilot? Otherwise welcome to a day in be back of today’s airlines. I love the guy in Econ comfort who asks for three drinks on a 40min flight, cause their “free”.

It's very professional of you and you're a gracious guest to even consider following-up on this, but I don't think anyone would hold you accountable for a passenger's lack of tact. In or out of uniform, it's always uncomfortable and maybe even embarrassing to be confined in a public space with a clueless loudmouth. Considering that you were in uniform, it sounds like you did everything you could.

No, it was not a United Pilot. Just a drunk talking about his sexcapades. I didn't want to create a scene, so just put on my earphones and let the flight attendants know that I wasn't apart of any of that conversation on the way out. I just hope any passenger didn't misconstrue who it was coming from because I was sitting right next to him.

Sounds like you handled it with utmost professionalism then. Unfortunately crews are used to this type of behavior much of the time so the fact that you pointed out that you were not approving of it was probably the best you could do. I wasn't sure why you wanted to bring the jumpseat committee into it, but now I understand, you were concerned with the impression that you condoned this boorish behavior.

Sounds more like a politician or reporter than a pilot. A drunk pilot would have shown you pictures of his house or airplane.

Good on you. Handled like a champ. I wouldn’t worry about a thing, but deeply appreciate the courtesy of not wanting to cause problems while riding. You are more than welcome ANY time to ride with me!!
