New Hire Classes and Drops

Now that the company is consistently updating class dates I figured I would start a place for information to potential new hires. (Hopefully the significant gaps in hiring are over)

the company has started posting class dates on our company portal. Today they announced a march 6 class date.

It appears that the plan is to update planned classes about 2 months out. Here is what we know for now:

JAN 23 (32 in class)
FEB 6
FEB 20
MAR 6

There are NO hard numbers posted for class sizes, just the class dates. These are also furlough classes, so expect some spots to be filled by the 200ish furloughs still out through fall 2019.

Unfilled vacancies over the past few months have been:

737 - EWR, SFO, LAX
320 - EWR, SFO, LAX
756 - EWR, DCA, SFO, LAX

Last few classes have been given 737 and A320.

Good luck to all!

Sweet! Good idea and good info. It also looks like besides the December 12th class which had 12 people in it, the rest of the classes are averaging just over 30ish per class

Thanks for the updates MoP! I'm in the pool now, hoping to get to class this summer after I retire from the AF. Counting the days...

FWIW, just flew w/an interview capt. Said he had 4 days of interviews scheduled next month. Also said PCs next fall may be moved to accommodate more training.

The vicsous circle of canceling recurrent/landings for new hires, only to father push back pilots that need landings and are therefore no good.

Viper you'll have to pardon my ignorance, but what is a PC? Thanks!

A PC is a yearly proficiency check. We don’t use those at UA anymore but many of us still use the acronym. UA now does 9 month checks fist is an MV (maneuvers validation) then 9 months later is an LOE ( line oriented evaluation). Then repeat.......

Could anyone who has recently received a CJO please advise on how long a wait to start training? I have an interview coming up in a few weeks and a deployment several months from now. I realize I’m putting the cart before the horse, but would like to know for planning sake just in case. Thanks in advance.

Pinseekr9 02-02-2018 06:58 AM

When is your availibility date? I have an app in and curious how far out they are offering interviews right now.

JDLitt 02-02-2018 07:05 AM

I’ve had it at two weeks notice for several years. Hogan invite came in mid December.

Friend of mine just received a CJO this week and was told to expect a Fall class date. So, with that being said I think you should be fine in regards to the deployment.

Is your friend applying anywhere else?
Seems to me, telling someone to expect a class in 6 months is outrageous.
Wonder how many people who end up in the pool for 6+ months last and come to work for us?
How many start at Delta, American, FedEx, UPS or SouthWest?

Yes, we should interview and have a pool.
No, the process shouldn't take 9 months or longer.. in the current environment.

Just my opinion.
Welcome aboard
Motch

PS> I will add that 6+ months might be ok for a Military guy who will be separating in the future. But for (almost) anyone else?!

I have multiple well qualified freinds that can’t even get one call let alone multiple. So for a lucky few they have a choice to make, for most of the others they will be very happy with a fall class date.

I had my app in since 2010 with everyone, didn’t get a call tell 2013 from United. Waited 2 months in the pool and started class. Its not as easy to get hired as some people think it is, even in this environment.

We’re just now putting people in class from March of last year. A few left the pool but a lot didn’t.

He's got an interview at DL as well, although UAL is his first choice. He's going to do the DL interview and see how it goes, then make a decision when the time comes. He's fortunate to have a very good paying job overseas right now so he's not bothered by an extra month or two wait. Both DL and AA have had 6-12 month waits for class in the past year or two, so it's all a bit of luck and timing.

Delta was in the same situation two years ago that we’re in now. They were adding sims and doing a lot of construction on the training center -pushing back class dates 6-9 months.
Bottom line is you can’t take it personally

CJO in early December, told to expect training "sometime in the middle of 2018." Hit me up if you have any questions on the interview, and good luck on the deployment. Hopefully it's at least a flying gig and not the dirty dirty CAOC or something worse.

I had a lot of people help me from the inside. I am very lucky and humbled that they helped me. Like I said it’s not easy to get hired if I didn’t have help who knows if I would have been called by now.

By the way I sent you a PM, months ago asking why you seem to have a chip on your shoulder against me. So now I’ll ask you in public what do you have against me? I don’t have a clue who you are yet you seem to know me......

Wow, 3 whole years? The agony......

Between the L-CAL and later UAL pretty sure mine was close to 10 years. Sadly I know guys that are now pressing 13 with job fairs, career counseling reviewed apps, clean records, and crickets.

Although I will admit, if you had a dad on the inside that is a bit of a “wait”. I’ve know a lot of other people with various boxes checked that waited longer than it would have seemed.

Read a lot of his posts, seems to have a chip on his shoulder over A LOT of things.

That’s what I’m thinking too......there’s only 2 pilots at UA I have not gotten along with. Unless I made someone mad and never knew it :o. My dad is long retired so if he has a problem with him he can probably let it go.

If he has a problem with me or my dad he’s welcome to PM me and we’ll talk about it........

MasterOfPuppets 02-03-2018 05:11 PM

I believe that’s just all the vacancies that were available, class had 32 in it I heard.

Ni hao 02-06-2018 10:11 AM

Ran into a guy today starting OE on 757. His whole class of 29 was from the 2001 furlough. Think they came back in the NOV class. This class no idea but they are coming back some 18 years later.

That would explain the cancelation of the NOV class.

Yep.

And they got to/will eventually go, but sucks for the dudes that got the call for that class on Friday morning and then ANOTHER call in the afternoon saying they wouldn't go. Some will have waited just shy of 3 months.
