The initial report also said he “escaped” from the flight. The slant is strong. The news clip I just read and the video I saw mentioned that police confirmed he was ticketed for the flight. But really that could be horse cookies as well.

"Another day, another airline drama—though today’s developments actually make the airline seem like the good guy. A federal judge ruled on Monday that a Hawaiian Airlines passenger owes the airline $97,817 after his disruptive behavior caused the flight to return to Honolulu instead of going on to New York City last November. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports that the passenger, James August, began disrupting flight attendants while his flight was still on the runway. His behavior continued well into takeoff as he allegedly threatened crew members as well as his girlfriend, her children, and other passengers. According to the New York Post, August was drunk when he got on the plane and tried to order more alcohol, though he brought his own on-board as well. August, for his part, says he doesn’t remember any part of the incident, but he also didn’t dispute it. He was arrested once the flight returned to Honolulu. The almost $100,000 fine was calculated to reimburse the costs of turning the plane around—including fuel, ground crew, landing fee, and re-catering—and covers what Hawaiian Airlines had to pay to seat passengers on other airlines. It does not, however, cover the cost of the meal vouchers that were handed out to delayed passengers (that would be $46,900)." |

Don't you guys arm the doors just prior to pushback like every other airline? So did he arm the door, then open the door? |
