Thanks for the reply guys. I’m currently on the 73 and my 850 stopped working after about 10 years. I’m going back and forth between the DC Pro-X and the DC One-X (the One-X is very similar to the Bose headsets). While I realize the One-X would be total overkill for the Airbus I think it would be really nice in the 73. Long term I’ll probably stay on the 73 but wanted to see what was used in the Airbus just in case I switch over to it.

Same earpiece as the QC20. Very comfortable. ANR in the is 737 noticeable but A20 over ear muff + ANR is much better. I also use earplugs so that may be some of the additional difference.

Come to the dark side!! You won't regret it!! I switched several years ago and never regretted it.

For now seniority is better on the 73. We’ll see.

So in all honesty, has the Airbus gotten louder? I remember it being fairly quiet to the point of gentlemanly.

I believe that they have. I say that because I rode JS on a brand new Frontier plane and it seemed much mo' quieter than ours. I suspect that the insulation is toast in our old planes vs the new.

That being said, our old noisy airbi are still quieter than our 777's.

They do get louder over time , old company I used to fly for were getting brand new A321's / 320's they were always quieter than the 15 year old aircraft . Ours are quite louder IMO

That being said the ear piece that united offers is pure garbage even with the custom ear mold out of Denver, And to everyone else on freq it sounds like we're flying with the windows open.

I use the telex 850 but that's simply cause they were nearly given to me for free . I would agree with most posters on here . Many don't use better headsets (for what reason I do not know) and even when they do have some they don't use the hot mic .

It's your hearing .

2 cents

I ruined my hearing long before I took my first ride in an airplane. :D

Yes.

FWIW, most of the noise in the Airbus is internal airflow due to the placement of the cockpit in the middle of the avionics cooling circuit. If in doubt, momentarily put it in the fumes/smoke evac config and you will be shocked at the difference. (As a side note, it’s also helpful when somebody drops a deuce in the fwd lav.)

Over the years Airbus has made minor “running changes” that naturally make the new ones quieter. And the ducts and insulation on the older ones never seem to get put back together perfectly after a heavy check. Over time the airplane gets noisier.

I won't get fooled again. Ear plugs for every concert I attend!
