NYC base ?

Can someone please explains how our 2.5 hour to show on reserve works for LGA and EWR! I live in NJ and can make EWR in an 1:40 but realistically its 3 hours for LGA. So how do you sit reserve for EWR/LGA at the sometime it seems impossible! You would have to be sitting on the GWB to make it with the time allotted! Somebody must have figured this out!

The call out time is only for the main airport (EWR, LAX, SFO, IAD). The call out time for the satellites is within a reasonable amount of time. You can also get princess parking paid for if called out to the satellites in order to speed up the show.

You can only sit Field standby at the main airport.

There’s an LOA that recently came out that talks about sitting FSB at satellite airports.

FNG’s... Read the f’in contract. A lot of money and effort went into creating it and it governs your entire life. Think maybe you should know what’s in it to avoid stupid questions like “should I be sitting on the GWB on reserve?”

Hey, chill Dude! I'm still waiting on a class! I would have read it if I had access to it...im trying to understand what I'm getting into because I have another offer!

By the way it's "f'n!" If your gonna make an attempt at cursing at least get that right! Allot of effort went in to creating shortcuts and they should govern your entire forum life!

UASCOMPILOT 05-07-2018 09:55 AM

Chickens before they hatch I see!

I've been in this industry long enough so I'll take the wait and see route!

Don't stress about LGA at all. You live within 2.5 hours of EWR under normal traffic, last minute assignments are pretty rare, and if the stars align to jam you up you just articulate your situation to a very understanding chief pilots office. I think you will be off reserve relatively quickly if hired in this next push but I would still bid 737 for less LGA(better/more productive) trips vs the bus. Congrats on the offers! If the other offer involves a JFK base I would weigh that drive, parking shuttle time, and sheer stupidity of the belt parkway against a mindless drive up the turnpike. EWR is 10 min parking lot to security and JFK was 30 min from lefferts. Over a career that time driving, tolls, waiting for a shuttle bus... will add up.

Ummmm....is he unclear on what “FNG” means? Appears so.

Hope the other offer works out. Good luck.

For most of us the UPA or UAL don’t govern our entire lives. This is just what we do for income and everything else is what matters and governs our life decisions. Most of us have a pretty good understanding of what’s in the contract but don’t care about every little detail. I’m not going to dry clean shirts rather than throw them in the wash, expense meals that I seldom eat, etc. It’s just jot worth spending $5 effort to get $2.50 out of the company. The original post just asked a simple question. No need to sound like a bitter old man or even worse the shriveled piece of his anatomy.

They can have you sit FSB at one of the co terminals, they just have to tell you at the time of the assignment. Rare but it can happen.

You don’t dry clean your uniforms? Fascinating. You must look like a real pro walking thru the terminal.

How do you get that conclusion out of his message? He probably has shirts that can be laundered either way, and chooses the washer in his house, just like I do for mine. While he could save the $1 in water, electric, and detergent to have the company pay for dry cleaning, he elects not to for simplicity. How was that difficult to infer?

worstpilotever 05-16-2018 06:40 PM

Do your shirts come out of the washer and drier ironed?

Wrinkle free a cut aboves. No need to iron if you hang them right away. Look way better than the issued clown outfit uniform. Don’t wrinkle in my suit case, and the fit is proper. Sure, I didn’t have to spend the $30 per shirt, but I wanted to look better than how I looked with what the company gave me. I save time and gas money by visiting the dry cleaner less too.

C-17 Driver 05-16-2018 07:40 PM

good grief... what’s next to argue about? Shining your own shoes....having “perma-shine” shoes, or paying someone to do it?

The “iron-y” (pun intended) is you could pretty much buy a new one of those cheap M and H shirts after every use for what a lot of dry cleaners charge to clean them.

I generally do my own because, believe it or not, I can do a better job cleaning the collar with some “Shout”, some bleach, and a little elbow grease than most of the dry cleaners do. It seems that most of the time they leave at least a little brown residue...

Already washing white t-shirts. Throw uniform shirts in the same load and hang right out of the dryer. It’s not a big deal. The point was that most of us know the contract, but it or the company doesn’t control our “entire lives”. We simply don’t expense every item that we could since it isn’t worth the trouble and instead focus on our lives away from this outfit.

Anyway, this sure has drifted from a NYC base thread and I’m just as guilty for playing along.

This is a smart question and I can’t believe people are knocking you for trying to do some due diligence.

You have a set time for EWR. Everything else is reasonable. They mean it. ie if you live 2 hrs from EWR and it take 2.5 more from that point to LGA normally and there is construction then you are OK if you can’t get there for 5 hrs. Also your normal report time allows for exceptions due to traffic as well. Hope that helps.

captsurf 05-18-2018 06:05 PM

I’m in the same boat, except on the opposite side of the Hudson. 30 miles east of JFK, can make it to LGA in 45-60 min, 90 with traffic. EWR is 1.5-2.5hrs depending on traffic. Waiting on a class date. Seems I should hope for the bus?

Both the Bus and the Guppy have about 25% of their flying out of LGA. Most people bid to avoid it so, once you can hold a line, you should be able to hold mostly LGA.

Jeez! Trigger much?

Oh, that's gotta sting! remember the other thread?

I for one, like to welcome our new additions to the seniority list in a completely different fashion than you apparently. Especially when they're asking a valid question and trying to gain knowledge. Fortunately for him/her, some responses have been very helpful and beneficial. excluding yours.
