I would like to see if we can get sustained info & support for us soon to be retiring mil guys desiring to get on at UAL on this new thread.

Mil bubbas for Mil bubbas. I'm one. So much blubber gets injected into these forums. Just the facts please.

I'd like to get hired. 20 year fixed wing chump- current. Ready to get in the game. How many recs, how far out to publish, in house recs importance and how many needed? 100 hours in last 12 months still key? Pure helpful realism is great. I need a job and like United for domiciles and brand regardless of current events. Thanks all.

The best stats and recommendations might come from Cage or Emerald on how to position yourself best to get asked for the interview.

On this forum you’ll get a pilots personal story on what they did. I suppose with enough you get a general idea of the baseline. That being said, while pilots have similar experiences and backgrounds, it’s important to remember none of us here know how the system works. The agencies I mentioned don’t know either but do have a database of what has worked for their clients.

Back in my day, the squadron had a binder 4 inches thick of trip reports for each major airline. I don’t know if that happens anymore. We had enough internal intel and lessons learned that made it much less of an unknown.

Based on my recent conversations with both military and civilian new hires while going through training for a month, they all spoke highly of the prep agencies and said it was well worth the cost.

Again, knowing what pilot X did/had might be good generic info but you aren’t that pilot.

Remember all those Captains back in 14 who got RIFd and VSPd? Find them. We had a treasure trove of airline stuff in my squadrons, and now we’re all happily on major airline lists.

Big thing is that the bro network is better than this network.

Just retired (actually on terminal at the moment) and start in June. I'd agree that the bro network is key. However, hit me up via PM with anything you need when you need it.

My facts: published 14 months prior to availability / 5 external recs, 7 internals / as far as I know 100 hours is still very necessary / I haven't heard definitively but I do think the recs help. The internals are done online, the externals I handed to my interviewer during the hr portion of the interview.

My story:

- 22 years, >2500 hrs PIC, combat, IP, SEFE, safety stink, current at retirement four years ago
- Published the day I dropped my papers (a year out), figured I could always move up retirement if I needed to (may be harder now)
- Five recs, all bros
- Nothing for six months, then reached out to the husband of a girl I went to high school with--walked my resume into chief pilot--called for interview within three weeks
- Emerald Coast prep (also did sim prep in DEN that's now OBE)
- Wrote thank yous to everyone involved in the hiring process (including Doris). Tip: ask for business cards during interview, helps with the thank yous and also helps you remember names during a very stressful process
- Hired Oct 2013; dog paddled for four months
- Got a call from American a week before Indoc; declined interview
- Bought a General of Gentleman Jack for each of my bros and a lot of wine for my classmate & her husband--don't be a cheap bastard, thank the people who helped you get there

Observations:

- I walked another guy's resume in and he got a call--there is definitely value to chief pilot meet & greets or at least having someone vouch for you to people making personnel decisions
- That guy & another I wrote a rec for failed the Hogan--both are on with someone else now
- Do the interview prep, even if you are glib and effortlessly think on your feet
- Take the time to help the guy behind you get on

I start terminal leave in about 45 days and have my app in since last October with a June availability date. 10 year heavy guy (tankers, VIP transport), IP/EP, around 3500 hours total, 1600 PIC not counting any "Other" time. I'm guessing it is just bad timing with my availability date and the current slow down, but haven't heard anything. Have not been able to get my resume into a CP. Any ideas or just be patient?

I'm also ex-mil but hired too long ago to be of any value to this thread.

If you even have any kind of safety experience make sure it stands out on application! If you were a DO and a COS I’d have COS first on app! This is a fact, I’ve seen a very low time COS get hired!
