UND, United Airlines announce pilot pathway program https://bismarcktribune.com/news/sta...fc3de7368.html You pay for flight training and a degree at UND, then you're required to stay at the university for a "required amount of time" (per the announcement), then you get to go to a regional partner, and then I quit reading. It seems like the a normal career progression except you're pinning all options on the health of one airline. A clear win for UND as they get a carrot to keep instructors around for a while. Everyone else, not so much. |
Still not as good as the ATCA one where you skip the regionals altogether and go right to United from Cfi. Apparently delta is cooking one of these up too.
|
That strikes me as idiotic. For the Captains anyway.

Deep in the article sounds like it said no structured interview required. So is this the first 141-Legacy actual, legit flow? Or do I just need another cup of coffee this morning.
I went to UND, can I go back?? https://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/4459063-und-united-airlines-announce-pilot-pathway-program |

Students who graduate from UND's aviation school will be required to stay for a period of time after they graduate for a commitment to the school before they can move on to one of United's regional partners, Capt. Mike McCasky, managing director of flight training at United Airlines, said Monday. Each participating United Express partner has its own CPP requirements that pilots would have to meet to be considered for job openings with United Airlines. CPP pilots who continue to meet program criteria at the regional level eventually would be placed in United Airlines' first available new hire class. United Express, United's regional branch, partners include CommutAir, Mesa Air, Air Wisconsin and ExpressJet Airlines. Once a UND student is accepted into the program, no further structured interview is required with United. As long as the company is hiring pilots, UND students, who remain eligible, would be offered conditional employment with the airline. |

UND will be able to delay a student's career progression from UND instructor to regional FO. This is a manpower tool for the university to retain the instructors
UAL and UND have announced an agreement subject to the whim (i.e. Manpower retention) of Express CPA carriers. CPP = carrot dangle/retention scheme at the regionals. This and others = carrot dangle/retention scheme at the college level. This is significant as a conditional job offer is being made, subject to the above hoops, to an unqualified applicant. It appears that pilot hiring is being farmed out to the universities. Traditionally, a UAL captain (ALPA member), has been a part of the pilot hiring process, I wonder how this will change that dynamic. Which means the prospective pilot can consider themselves on probation from day 1 of starting the UND program to end of year 1 at UAL. Assuming they make it there of course. |

I talked to a current student there. He said they announced they need 150 Multi (basically forcing them to become MEIs unless they have the money to shell out for the additional 129 hours outside of the TCO), then they go to the partner regional until they get 2500 turbine, then into United.

Does that 2500 turbine require any PIC time? |

I don’t see how they’d make it a requirement with this program since the pilot will get some ACTUAL 121 experience. |
Maybe I missed it so apologize in advance. My question is: Doesn’t every pilot hired here have to have an ATP? And if that’s the case wouldn’t they already have their 500 of PIC?
Cheers, Biff |

Cheers, Biff Yeah one omitted and assumed letter on my part tripped you and others up. My apologies. I was wanting to know if 121 TPIC would be required. If the regionals hire only FOs and don’t require them to upgrade, how will they source their Captains? My guess is it’ll require some left seat 121 time before leaving these regionals. |

Hence my response to Prex in that I’m sure there will be further language making it more clear and/or alteration to the conditions of making it to UAL. |
