Both are a choice (vice a need) in my case: commuting and the 4th stripe. Couldn’t be happier with either decision😎

I couldn’t care less about a 4th stripe
After 2 furloughs and 14 years on the street I’m in this for the money!

Doesn’t mean I don’t cherry pick trips when it’s obvious I’m going to fly. I’d just rather fly 50 and get guarantee than work harder.

How often do you get beat up on reserve in IAH? How many red eyes do you do? I can hold CA IAH but I’ve heard horror stories.

1. A lot of commutes aren’t bad, to me living somewhere I don’t want to be like Jersey is nuts. 2. With aggressive pick up and the new reserve rules a lot of guys do just as well as jr line holders.

IAH as a base is terrible. The red eyes to IAH are the worst across the whole system. An IAH reserve gets abused. I wouldn't wish IAH, as a CA or FO, on anyone (that's senior to me)

You don’t have to live in jersey. There are plenty of amazing, diverse places to live within a couple hours of EWR.

There are reasons to live there. Cost of living is top of the list. I was there for a year and a half but left in 2014. I didn’t like the flying or the area but won’t disparage anyone if that’s what they want. Your $$ goes twice as far there as EWR, 3x as LAX, and 5x as SFO.

That is what is awesome about this job, choices. One man’s trash is another’s treasure.
