Please read, it is a must.

I fully realize there is no shortage of qualified pilots for the Legacies today, but in 3 to 5 years there will be. I’ve read articles that the head of SWA pilot hiring number one worry is who they are going to hire in the future with impending pilot shortage beyond the Regionals.

Now Delta asks non pilot employees to take leaves of absences to train to become pilots.

I do not have a dog in this fight (I obviously want all mainline carriers to absorb regional flying), but the E175 can easily be configured with 9F+72Y (while retaining Economy+), which is fortunately too big from a scope perspective. However, +5 seats (or +11) worth of incremental revenue would certainly pay (and then some) for the added cost of being operated by mainline flight crews, attendants, ramp, CSAs, and MX employees.

An Example:

(11*Average Ticket Value*Marginal Revenue)*(6 Flights Per Day)*365*(Average aircraft annually available for service) = HUGE Number

Very conservative inputs results in >$40M in annual incremental revenue on 25 additional aircraft.

You definitely don't fly for United. Pay is the easiest to get back. Scope, work rules, and benefits... Not so much.

So please stop predicting the future.

Republic just bought 100 RJs with the option to convert them to E2’s.

Someone is betting on scope relief and I’ve yet to meet any UAL pilot willing to budge one nanometer on scope.

No, Republic signed a letter of intent to maybe sign an agreement to buy them later this year.

Republic Airways Holdings Inc. (“Republic”) announced today that it has signed a Letter of Intent (“LOI”) with Brazil’s Embraer S.A. (“Embraer”) for an order of 100 E175 aircraft, with the right to convert to E175-E2 aircraft. In addition to the firm aircraft, Republic has secured purchase rights on an additional 100 aircraft. The announcement was made at the Farnborough International Airshow in Farnborough, England.
Semantics, someone is betting on a paradigm shift.

No, it absolutely is not. There are little to no penalties for canceling an LOI as there is with actual order.

I see it differently. They’re betting on NOT getting scope relief, which is why they ordered the 175 with the option on the E2. Stop being so paranoid

Which regional is non-union?
