EWR 787 now in CCS
No vacancy yet, but CCS is showing 1 CA and 1 FO slot for EWR 787, and you can bid for it. Looks like the vacancy will be happening soon.

So what's the over/under. I would bet Capt does not go above 1500 and FO above 2300. :D

I don’t have to hold it, I just need the FOs senior to me to bid it :)

If true, the pairings could be 2-day trips worth 10 hours (7 pairings to get 70 hours). If this is close, the flying would be significantly worse than even IAD787. Historically the company has given the SSC a preview of pairings prior to the bid opening. If I were in EWR and considering the bid, I'd be pounding down the door of the local SSC chair to figure our what the initial flying will look like. I'd be shocked to see it go super senior if all it's going to be is 14 days of all-nighter transcons. Of course the 757 base in DEN surprised us too. Presumably, the -10 will get ETOPS certification and the flying will get better eventually. Personally I'd wait to see how the flying matures. |
I thought the 787 would go junior when it reopened in iah. The company and union both put out repeated messages about lack of schedule flexibility and only SYD and a lousy unproductive 2 day as possible trips. It still went pretty senior. Never underestimate the power of a shiny new jet to stroke people’s ego and make them do strange things.

Long term there may be some Asia flying and maybe some exciting new longhaul market out of NYC. The 787 excels on long thin routes, but is certainly capable over the Atlantic. I don't think the schedules will get any better than what the 757 currently has, but for some it'll be a pay raise and ya can't argue with that logic. Still, it'll be a shame to see the OCRF underutilized. |
The 787 might be the "new 757". Yeah it can fly long fllghts, but the vast majority are 4-8 hours. That means probably 95% plus of its flights it is flying around extra airframe weight. On shorter flights it isn't much better than a 767.
STAR Alliance probably does more 787 really long haul than anybody else. |
