Default EWR 737 Capt Reserve QOL

Hi All,

Anyone have the specifics on a few questions listed below and could chime in would be greatly appreciated. I am on the 777 in DCA and don't know anyone currently in the seat to ask.

* Field Standby-Is it at EWR and LGA?
* Short call useage?
* Cross town pay for LGA?
* Most junior trips?
* Easy to aggressively pick up?
* Anything else important of note about EWR as of late

Cheers!

FSB only at EWR. I suppose they could contractually mandate a LGA FSB. Let’s not give them any ideas!

Unless you’ve just finished an assignment, lately they make sure nearly everyone is on a SC or FSB daily. They will custom build assignments during the day targeting certain pilots in silos. Once you get the hang of it it’s pretty predictable.

There is crosstown trip pay LGA, I think it’s around $90-$100. The new parking garage there helps a lot. Covered parking and walking from your car is nice after fighting the horrible traffic.

Junior trips seem to be anything early at LGA, double duty days, and a lot of MEX/GUA/BOG, and red eyes. They really crappy ones contain two or more of these fun factors.

Yes it’s easy to APU. Just learn the rules about when you can pick up out of silo on the computer. Even then, they will sometimes let you pick up out of silo if you just call and ask.

Don’t waive. Especially as a new captain flying with new hires on tiring trips, you will need all of your brain cells working.

I know I’m not really selling it here, just trying to be honest. As a local, there are some days where I sit SC at home and don’t get used, and it is fun to be in the left seat. Just know what you’re getting into. Good luck.

Is field standby like airport hot reserve? As in you have to be at the airport itself for your reserve shift? I didn’t know UA had this.

Unless you're already commuting to reserve WB FO... then it's an easy choice.

Yes for 4 hours. Most of us interpret the employee parking lot to be “airport property” lol.

Yeah I’d have to agree.

I don't like being in EWR Lot F one second longer than necessary. Yield and stop signs? What signs?

Coming up on Earhart to make the left turn into Lot F, my BMW is stopped with the left turn indicator on. And the d-bag behind me hits me because he failed to stop. United ramper guy going to work, claimed he fell asleep and was sorry. Luckily it wasn't a hard hit, a thump that was enough to be felt. It left a black imprint of his license plate border on my bumper and a few scratches so hopefully I can use a simple compound to rub it out and clean it.

It sucks when you do everything right and someone else screws up and negatively affects you. Same thing happened prom night. Just waiting at a red light and then boom get hit in the back. Any who, just venting so carry on

Sorry about your BMW. I can assure you, however, that you aren't the only person who got hit in the back on prom night!

And that wasn’t the prom night experience you were looking for?

Edit: too slow!
