Default Personal tablet/laptop suggestions 2019

I'm returning to United following a long LOA that started pre-EFB. I understand that pilots have EFB iPads, but is there a recommendation for a on-the-road computing device?

I currently own a iPad Pro with LTE and keyboard add-on. Is there any benefit to buying, say, a PC-based laptop or a Macbook to do company-related stuff?

For example, can you run bidding apps and accomplish CBTs on a personal iPad? Or can you already do those activities on a EFB?

Thanks.

You can bid and do CBT’s on the company iPad. In my opinion, it is much easier to bid on my home desktop computer than the iPad. I have also used to company iPad to watch a movie on the United app while deadheading, and I use the map app on the company iPad to help find nearby restaurants and activities while on overnights.
I personally won’t do much else on the company iPad - I never check my personal email, this forum, or do any banking on the company iPad.
I, and many others, feel the company iPad should be reserved for work related stuff as it can be monitored by UAL. Some people are comfortable doing just about everything on the company iPad, but I’m not.

I had imagined that the company iPad EFB is locked/restricted down more where you can't search for restaurants or watch movies or add non-official apps. My only EFB experience is with the USAF where they introduced EFB iPads with severe software-based restrictions on usage other than looking at regulations and nav data.

So it sounds like a personal iPad or laptop is essential if you want to watch Netflix at the hotel, checking Facebook, and email for personal business and such, without using company property (i.e. EFB) that I assume is subject to search.

I use a chromebook for bidding, CBTs and all my personal stuff like NetFlix and Hulu while on the road. They are cheap, great battery life and affordable. I like the 14" screen like this one:

I only do company related stuff on my iPad with just a few personal photos of my kids on it. The company can monitor everything done on THEIR iPads.

As did about 4500 SkyWest pilots. Neither uses them any more .... I guess that says it all.

I have the latest version of the Surface Pro that is a huge improvement over Delta's experience. It's a solid state drive and the I7 is fast! Had it almost a year and love it. The size is perfect for travel.

Small form factor Thinkpad running Linux, if you care about security. Add an onion browser over. VPN to give you anonymous access to ALL the WWW.

proton email account.

Keep your private life off the company device.
