The feelings that you and I have concerning this issue are far from mutual. Sorry if there was any confusion.
I'm talking about process, you're talking about content. The content is best left to each LEC, by resolution, at an LEC meeting, IMO. |
So back to the proposed new uniform, I hope that we can agree that it fails to meet the needs of the pilot group. I believe what we're disagreeing over though is process. My read of the MEC policy manual still favors the resolution process no matter how cumbersome, no? On another side I believe the Uniform Committee probably felt they were following the direction of the pilots and compromised with the Company’s desires for change. No malice at all on their part. But what is the most effective way to change to tie color and style, hat offerings, rank/stripe style and color, and such? Ideally there would be multiple examples and some sort of ballot to choose from those, because right now the line pilot basically feels they are being told this is it. This is the failure of the current process. In the past LUAL actually allowed the line pilots to choose from multiple choices that included color, ties, rank/stripe design... Who knows maybe we’re still feeling the effects of the “Fred” method of management. |

Yes, obviously. But aside from you wanting to turn APC into a bastardized version of the union hall, how far apart are we really?

If the content of your resolution is weak it will die a quick death, as it should be. And any scrutiny your resolution would get here would be three times worse at the meeting of a council that actually knows how to conduct union business. |

. On my list of priorities concerning our job, the style of the uniform is near the bottom. I'm only concerned that it's comfortable and durable. |

The content is exactly what starts the process. It's all about the content. And in case you didn't know, LEC members can't write and floor resolutions at their meetings. That has to be done by members (you) at the meeting. And voted on by other members. To then be ruled timely or untimely by the LEC.

Any resolution coming out of a local meeting should should be that council's work, not something copy and pasted from the internet, IMO. I am aware of the process guiding resolutions at the local level, but I'm sure you're also aware that LEC officers (can and do) floor resolutions on their own at MEC meetings.

Very far. I don't believe the style of a new uniform is worth my time and I trust our committee members to use the feedback of the wear testers and line pilots to make any changes they feel are "necessary". They have a year to do so. I'll wear whatever the final uniform is. If there are pieces I don't like then I'll choose to wear or not wear them when then final product is mailed out.

I completely agree on your point, but I suppose we disagree on the venue. I don't believe that APC is the appropriate place to wordsmith a resolution.

So to paraphrase, it sounds like the new uniform is not worth your time and effort and is not a priority. However, for a fellow union member who does feel strongly you have the time to chastise and lecture. At least you have your priorities straight. |

When you start talking about recalling committee members and expecting an apology from our Master Chairman during our contract negotiations about a uniform that isn't final yet???????? YES, my priorities are straight. Your's are not.
I did say that committees that don't serve the best interests of the pilots can and have been fired. Negotiations? So what? Do you think we're going to blow Section 6 because we don't like a proposed uniform? |

As an organization, we have a process to express our displeasure. Show up at an LEC meeting and when the call for new business is made, submit a resolution to recall the committee and have the MEC chair clearly state that the new uniforms failed to win the hearts and minds of the pilots.

We need to focus on what 100% of us agree is important. Certainly more important the a uniform that hasn't been finalized yet. Anything that shows we're not cohesive at this point is a detriment. |
