I could wear a cool santa's helper/elf outfit if it rains money.
Lots of folks are emotional about uniforms and paint jobs on airplanes.

Denver is senior? Many people like living there? Many people choose to live there and bid aircraft to sit reserve at home? We have 3.5 year captains in other bases.
That same dude who is at 22 years on reserve-in base at DEN could make the decision to commute to be in a wide body on the coasts and work 9 days a month.
Additionally, nobody’s career is the same and timing is everything.
OP, it’s a step back for the first year or two, Just be able to make the decision and put it behind you and have no regrets, whatever decision you choose.

Huh? F9 top captain pay is $270/hr. You can make that year 3 or 4 at UAL? I don't think he will recoup the pay cut taken unless you can get to a widebody CA seat in 10 years. Also while it's nearly impossible to predict the future, it's worth a moment to take at look at UAL's profit margin and debt on their balance sheet compared to the LCC's for long term stability. (F9 is still private unfortunately)

Hello,
After many years of trying I finally received the selection email. I’m excited but now I’m trying to figure out if it’s a good move. I’m in my mid 40s and a captain at Frontier about 44% up the current seniority. Taking the emotion out of it, does it make sense for me to make the jump? Financially it does not seem that way. Culturally, right now United management treats their pilots far better than at F9. There are also wide body, international non rev perks, better contract, etc.
I have been told to stop chasing it and I could be content at F9, I also know I would be very happy at United. I’m just trying to get some thoughts from current UAL pilots.
Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks again for all of you who posted some good thoughts. I'm excited to get the process started to see if I even get an offer. I'm also crunching some numbers to see how it all stacks up. I'll post the outcome.

I was at F9. I’m 3.9yrs on property holding nb CA or WB FO on the latest bid. I make more (401k& hourly)than my f9 classmates that are CA now. No regrets. United, best job I’ve ever had. Come on in, the water’s great!

It seems like you have a very grounded personality that is well equipped to think critically about your situation and do what is best for your family. This is a tough call but at the end of the day I would likely choose to continue my career at UAL as you are right within the age range where you can still benefit significantly from making a move. The money, 401k, option to fly a wide body and travel benefits are superior at UAL to that of F9. Best of luck to you in the UAL interview and should you be selected I hope that your decision making process goes smoothly.
