Not so. Ask Jim Johnson please. He said it at two MEC meetings on two separate occasions. once in 2005 and another in 2007. You can say it's BS all you want. You would be incorrect.

We have to be very careful about it. Yes and No. Sometimes it works and sometimes No. The MEC's don't decide how the money gets spent by the regionals (IE the UAL MEC won't have a say). It's an ALPA National function at the Executive Council Level.
I haven't been very impressed with our ability to protect our flank. I think the out-sourcing issue should have been fully resolved 3 to 4 years ago. We don't have tactical or strategic control of the regional MEC's and their goal setting. They do polling etc as well. They set their own contract goals. I've been talking to a few regional FO's on the jump seat. Some of these folks would love bigger RJ's. So, gotta be really careful.

You’ve just explained why there is no conflict of interest. No MEC or national can compel any MEC what to negotiate! If mainline MEC wants to scope in EVERYTHING, they can. And at the same time, the regional MEC CANNOT compel the mainline MEC to give up more scope so that they can fly bigger airplanes. Therefore, no conflict of interest.

We are trying to fill planes and connect to mainline with the high yield passengers, it’s our union blocking the company from selling more seats. Our scope love it or not ultimately affects our profitability. I’m not advocating selling out, but I do know out of a lot of cities we have lost global service and higher paying customers do to our inferior 50 seat product. That’s life. I personally would be fine with replacing more 50 seaters with 70 seats at the regional level. I think we are cutting our own necks. The same guys that beeyatch about DAL profit sharing don’t seem open minded to any changes that might increase our profitability. Yes single engine taxi helps and when even employees like myself BUY tickets for their families rather then use the UAL discount because you have to travel on a crap 50 seat RJ THERE IS AN ISSUE. I hope our union knows what it’s doing
Guess what else Delta does, JV out a YUGE portion of their top end widebody flying. Look at the number of top tier pay CA/FO seats at UAL vs DAL.
Stop pointing the finger at your breatheren and your union, they’re trying to put the genie back in the bottle and improve YOUR pay, QOL, benefits, travel, etc. Concessionist attitudes don’t help, especially for the guys on the bottom of the list. Unless you’re only worried about you.

Interesting quote here...Kirby says CRJ550 CASM is only high single digits more than a 50 seat jet but RASM is double digit increase, so its going to pay for itself and provide more revenue...

He said that in response to a question if they ever would have done this without their RJ scope bind to which he danced. He also said that scope relief is just a matter of time. If their lips are moving...

I can see the validity of his comment. Time is relative. Yes, a matter of time, we'll give on scope about the time the transporter is invented.....
