All this talk...

Last new-hire class had an 8-ball that was a 23 year old female.

I don’t know what degree she had if any. I guess my point is that none of us know the secret code to getting “the call.”

And other classes have had 23yo males. Let’s not devolve every thread into this garbage.

I remember when I was on the outside looking for my shot to get in, if you told me to go climb Mount Everest and maybe you will get a shot at being looked at....My response would have been, let me study everything there is about Everest and go buy my gear to make the journey. If you want it bad enough, you’ll do whatever it will take. But I guess a few people’s responses would be “why do I need to go do that?” Just remember that your attitude will help you get there.

"Your attitude determines your altitude". Apologies for the pun however well intended.

18 years of excuses.
Maybe I missed the tantrums. I haven’t gotten the impression that anyone is throwing a hissy fit. They are just pointing out that any correlation to having a degree and being a good pilot and an asset as an employee is questionable. Most people understand that any company can set any hiring standards they want, as long as they don’t violate a discrimination law. It’s their ball, they get to set the rules, no matter how dumb they may or may not be.

Wanna know what's more frustrating than not having a degree with thousands of hours and not getting a call? HAVING a degree with thousands of hours, leadership boxes checked, volunteer boxes checked, multiple types, and even a job fair or two and STILL not getting a call. I agree experience is worth way more than some B.S. degree but it is what it is. A pilot where I work for the last 5 yrs post the same question every 6 months. "can I get in w/o a degree?" In those 5 years they could have had it done.

It's frustrating, annoying, and downright discouraging, but what else can ya do? Knock, knock, knock away.

Google will lead you to the highest first year pay. But do some hand flying in preparation

I can't for the life of me understand why this thread exists.

If you have a degree you will be eligible to be selected from the pool of applicants. If you do not have a degree you will NOT get selected for an interview.

How hard is that to understand?

Want to be in the group that is considered qualified? Go get a 4 year degree. The end.

Hopefully this question will never come up again but I guess low comprehension might be equatable to lower education levels.
