No Degree

One from our class was let go about his 10th month in. We all called it in INDOC. He was under 30 and had a big attitude.
Interesting. You reminded of a captain I flew with a few weeks back. He told me he recently had a ALPA rep on his jumpseat. The ALPA guy told him that the company has been letting go on average one probationary pilot per week and then asked him if he could guess which age group. He never got into the reasons why but you can make a pretty good guess. Also, the rep said that United is acutely aware of the problem and is concerned with future of new hires and what they can do to address this issue going forward. I find all this very interesting because I have a desire to do interviews in the future.

The Hogan test probably eliminates a lot of folks who would be happy to have a good attitude, and not just in their probation year.

FWIW, a friend who recently interviewed said he learned through casual conversation with his fellow interviewees that the youngest in their group was 34 years old. Small sample size indeed but interesting none the less considering some of the previous posts in this thread. Perhaps the company has learned a lesson?

How funny,
I pointed this out a while ago and was branded a “hater” of new-hires. Guess my comments about these particular know-it-all types wasn’t far off the mark. Granted the bad eggs I had to deal with mostly hailed from the same commuter, but didn’t make it any less salient.
Good to know they are bouncing these guys and gals before they hit the point of no return. Like LUVPLANES, can’t for the life of me figure out why it’s so hard for these types just to behave, get along and do their jobs but I guess I’m just an old school kinda guy.

Can’t imagine working this hard to get here than screwing it up because of an attitude.
That said, it’s really fun flying with CAs complaining about millennials and how awful they are...(maybe it’s the grey hair)

AQP LCA I had last week said there is a 60% new hire retrain rate. An unusual number are requiring 60+ hrs of IOE and averaging 4 probationary pilots a week meeting review board to see if they are to be retained.

Sad considering how many of the good ones we shot down, just because....
