United hiring practices and TPIC

I am trying to gather some opinions on how to better my chances for getting selected for interview.

In short, I am JetBlue A320 First Officer with 8500 TT and 2000 TPIC. According to a new system bid at JetBlue I should be able to upgrade to E190 Captain but I am a bit worried that this could put me at disadvantage when it comes to getting the interview at United.

According to some of my United friends, it seems that United doesn't like high time Captains and I am worried about building more TPIC than I already have. Is this something that people on this board share a consensus with?

Nope.

More PIC is NOT gonna hurt and there is no assurance that UAL will ever call.

You've got the big boxes checked (assuming a degree) so do what is best for you. Seriously.

Left B6 as off the street hire at UAL in 13. E190 captain with over 10000 hours. Don’t over think it and don’t pass up on the upgrade if you want to be captain. UAL might never call. You just never know.

2000 TPIC is not too much. If it was 12,000 you might be onto something.

It’s been a couple of years, but I was offered a CJO with over 5k TPIC

Absolutely false.....
I’ve got a buddy who just got a CJO with 18,000 TT. And 12,000+ PIC/TPIC. And the CP meet and greet this very subject was brought up and the CL mentioned how they love highly seasoned pilots and are trying to find more.

The problem is finding these guys who are young enough and who want to jump ship.

He turned down his CJO BTW....

Has that happen once. Last time I take the time out of my schedule and days off to setup a meet and greet.

Hoss,

I don’t disagree with you. I was just making a point to the OP that 2000 TPIC wasn’t that much. Avoiding PiC time because you “think” your airline of choice wants this or that is just a plain bad strategy.

This isn't a decision I am taking lightly. Quite frankly, when I started out in this business TPIC was king and almost no one got hired without it. I spent 7 years in the right seat of an RJ waiting for my turn to get the "golden" 1000 TPIC but things changed and I saw many of my low time FO's leave for United or Delta while many of of the high time guys such as myself where hearing crickets.

Got hired by a major with
13400 total
9300 jet pic
1400 turboprop pic
More than 11 years ago though

The more the better I would say
But, check airman , volunteer , 4 year degree I did have in the package that was very helpful

So get the PIC
