Air New Zealand ZEDs
I noticed there is no ZED for business class on ANZ. They are also ZED High for employees which is not common and kind of expensive.
Will they at least give our Economy + on a Coach ZED fare?
Thanks

I priced a round trip ID90 on them from HNL-AKL-HNL one time in 2007 and it came out as nearly $1000. (price was 10% of highest coach fare) and they had no competition then on that route.
I balked and later that day I found a pair of R/T tickets on expedia on ANZ for $600 apiece....actual tickets with reserved seats. (in coach).

I used Air New Zealand with my son this spring. Pricey ZEDs but comfortably seated in their equivalent of econ plus, no complaints about the service, etc. Also, (at least at AKL airport) we were able to check in at the kiosk with our e-ticket listing & get confirmed seat assignments without ever talking to an agent or going to a dedicated employee line, etc., which was very convenient. Most importantly, incredibly unique & beautiful country- we’d definitely go again. If you haven’t been, suck up the extra $$ for the travel & enjoy the trip!
(If you’re coming from the States, to save $$ I’d try a vacation pass from SFO to AKL, then use NZ for domestic connections.)

I am a frequently nonrev flyer from SFO-AKL (my wife used to be an Air NZ FA) and we travel down to NZ about every 2-3 months. They don't have any business class zed agreements with OAL. They only upgrade their own employees and that itself is only after their employees are willing to shell out ~ $450 USD (based on SFO-AKL) each way. Even if you try to sweeten the deal with the crews with goodies, they can't upgrade you to business or premium eco, they are scared they will lose their jobs. When my wife was working with them, I researched her whole travel benefits and it is nothing compared to what we all have here in the states. The best option is to use the Vacation Passes that you guys get to get the bump on the priority list.
So depending on loads I bounce between Air NZ and UA to fly down. They will give you a nice whole row on their skycouch in economy if empty though!!!
* PS I fly for Alaska ( Former Virgin America 320 driver) and we have a business agreement with UA.

We don’t have a business class agreement with Alaska do we? I know we don’t have a reciprocal business agreement with JetBlue and it kind of bothers me that they ride up front on us across oceans yet we can’t ride Mint on a transcon flight.

UA actually does have a business agreement with Alaska. It is a bilateral agreement otherwise we wouldn't be able to do the same on you guys. Just check out them employeeres subsite and Other Airline Travel. It gives you the whole list and it shows the agreement with AS.
Actually getting on business class is a whole different story. With all the free upgrades all these airlines do now it is impossible. Also since you are behind direct employees listed in BIZ you end up on the bottom of the totem pole. Safe Travels!!
