Congratulations, I guess. Everyone I know there is taking a loss on their fancy houses and moving out of state. They say property and state taxes are eating them alive. Something about it’s cheaper to dump the house and get out of Illinois than stay.

I don’t live there, I’m only going based on what people that I trust tell me. I was based there nearly 30 years ago, I still wouldn’t consider going back, spiffy pilot lounge and all. But that’s just me.

We know sparky is coming to ORD, but you smart guys tell me - why are there no growth/bids in ORD recently?

BTW, it sounds like a nice 7 year project to add only 25% more gates. Terminal square footage appears to grow by 40% but for only 25% more throughput? It doesn’t sound as efficient as it is costly - and that was my previous point.

Happy bidding, there seems to be plenty of opportunity for guys tired of ORD stagnation.

You did notice that along with the sparky base, the 777 base is shrinking in ORD, right? So net net zero growth.

United's gates are maxed out. I plan on spending time between taxiways A4 and A5 every time I go there. And with construction all over the place, ORD is maxed out.

Until the expansion is complete, there's no room or runways for more aircraft.

By your theory, we should stay out of those pesky blue state hubs like SFO, LAX, DEN, IAD, and EWR where most of our high yielding customers come from. Expense is only one piece of the equation. Yield is far more important.

I’d rather operate at slightly more expensive airports and pick up higher revenue passengers from Silicon Valley, Hollywood, the nations capital, and the financial capital of the world, rather than operate at much lower cost airports.

Great points, why is there no growth/bids in ORD?

ORD's maxed out.

Is that a simple enough answer? You've been given detailed answers stating essentially the same thing.

So every guy who retires in Chicago should open up a subsequent bid to maintain staffing, right? Is the company backfilling those retirements?

If you’re correct and ORD is “maxed out”, why bring in a new fleet type? How many Hong Kong flights will that lift replace?

Simple, competition is higher, yields lower and the airport is expensive. So why add more flights to ORD?

Oh, because “I” live there or it’s and easier commute for “me.”

I tried to tell management where I thought the best flying was, but they never listen.

Enough about ORD let’s write about hats:

Now these are nice:

In case someone thinks I’m being gender biased:

Yep like the white hats!

The hat makes it all worth while.

We have all heard the old saying of “you choose to commute”. How ironic that it can now be twisted around to say “you chose to live in Chicago”.

I never thought I’d be grateful to be a commuter, but it sure does make me realize how nice it is to be able to bounce from one base/fleet to the other if things start sucking. I do hope things can turn around shorty for all of those that live in base and haven’t seen a positive trend in the right direction for awhile.
