Tricare supplemental

Would appreciate some help on this.

Looking over my wife's bennies, and I see UA offers a tricare supplemental health plan. The notes say its for retired servicemembers on Tricare. We are currently on Tricare reserve select(TRS), since I'm still in. Does this supplemental plan work with TRS or it just for for retire plan?

TIA!

It works with reserve select however the MOAA Tricare supplement plan is much cheaper and provides the same coverage.

Not sure a supplement saves that much. $3000 is the max annual out of pocket for tricare. As far as I can tell, supplements cover the out of pocket. If the supplemental premium is $140 per month with a 300/600 deductible, that would yield a family annual cost of $2280 (140x12 + 600). By my math you only come out ahead if your medical costs uncovered by Tricare exceed $2280, and the insurance only protects you for the last $720 until you hit the Tricare max out of pocket of $3000.

Anyone see it differently?

Same boat but reversed (wife still in) so interested. Kids are out of the house so just us for coverage. When I initially read it over it sounded like I was supposed to select the Tricare option.

If you expect a lot of medical claims next year it’s not a bad option. Personally I put 2400 in my flex spending and works good for my family... thankfully everyone is healthy right now.

The Tricare Supplemental deductible is 100/200. That covers the Tricare deductibles. We’ve used the supplemental for the last 4 years, and it’s worked well for us.

I was quoting the Tricare RESERVE select supplement MOAA cost (since thats what the OP was asking about) and not the retired reserve plan. The costs are different.

I did an estimate for TRS supplement on their website 5 min ago for a family of 5 and it was only $35.

And the MOAA supp can see TRICARE claims and pay all but the prescription COPAYS directly without filing a claim.
