Default How long is the CJO valid for?

How does class dates works for new hire after you get CJO? Do they give you class dates when you get the call with the CJO?

Do they offer multiple class dates? Are they accommodating of an applicants request in some cases?

Basically how long can a pilot stay in a pool before they get kicked out and have to reapply? Just wondering.

Can’t say at UAL. I received a CJO at Northwest in Feb 08 and was assigned class June of 08. Class was cancelled and everyone was removed from the pool in April of 09. So about 14 months. Unless something drastic happens you should be ok.

I spent 13 months in the ‘pool’...

However, the CJO was given just after the announcement of the 744 being parked and ALL the associated training events that had to happen because of that.

On the phone while being told “congrats - welcome to United. I was also told, we don’t know when we’ll put you in class”...

I had previously been told the CJO was good for ‘one year’ but maybe that’s old news with all the classes going on now.

CJO is valid for one year. It’s part of your job offer acceptance email.

Yes, but I don’t think you can switch classes around arbitrarily. I asked about that, and was told you could only defer a class for special circumstances, like military leave for example.

Just trying to answer the first of 5 questions poorly placed in the OP’s post.

The CJO states it's good for 12 months. I was told by HR when I got it to expect a early 2020 class. I received an email for a Dec 3&10 class. Unable to make those I asked if I could still defer to the January invite list and they said no problem. They send out an email with a link to class dates much like the interview email. My understanding is you don't have to pick the first available however once you sign up for one that's where it harder to change to a later date.

Yes, CJO is good for 12 months. After that, United could ask you to re-interview. When I received my CJO in 2013, I was concerned about having to re-interview because I was in a pool of over 200. At that time United was only taking between 2-6 candidates per class. I ended up going to class in June of 2014.

Once you accept a class date, you are expected to be there. Keep in mind, delaying class dates pushes you down in seniority. Seniority is king!!! A number is a number and it does matter.

Thanks for all the replies. My apologies for not framing the question properly and not replying back sooner.

I got the CJO on 11/14.

No specific information about class date hasn't been provided, except to expect an early 2020 class. I am guessing Jan/Feb.

The letter states it is valid for 12 months.

But my reason for the original post was to understand the class date acceptance process. Training takes 7-9 weeks and can have long breaks in between. I have an important event in May. So wanted to check if I could request a class date after May, incase a class date isn't offered by March? I understand that seniority is important, but I would like to plan things better. Therefore wanted to know how CJO and training dates work, when taking the first available date doesn't work out for some reason.
