UAL Stopping hiring?

Posted on another airlines pilot board. True?

Heard from a friend at United they are stopping all new hire classes, have built no flying line during busy season, and are planning on furlough due to possible spread of corona virus and economy. Have you heard of delta is doing the same? I saw all pilots and recruiters are now not going to the wia convention. That’s the first time they haven’t gone in that capacity since the start of the Iraq war.

UA and Delta have pretty much scrapped WIA and OBAP and host their own, respective, in house career fairs now. Honestly how it should have been a long time ago.

UA and Delta were in full force at NGPA a few weeks ago.

UA sponsored the event....

I can’t speak for NGPA. I just know WIA has very little presence from the Big 3 anymore. Last WIA I went to, probably 3 years or
more now, you couldn’t even talk to anyone. You just dropped your resume off.

United and Delta both seem to be happy with their own events. My friend was invited to UA back in September.

There are no new announced classes past the Match dates already announced. A class of 20 started yesterday. New hires slowed down initially due to the Max. I expect no more classes till the Wuflu settles out. They are still interviewing like crazy.

Yeah! Why should they support those women and minorities, driving up attendance and fee revenue... which goes to such wastes of money like youth aviation camps, scholarships, career mentoring, and interview prep. None of the above, by the way, exclude regular white males.

And you really don’t think they can write checks for all of the above without supporting this scheme?

The few years I went to WIA it was 97% dudes.

OBAP was 97% white dudes.

Never been to NGPA, but I think you can figure out where this is going...

What is the point and benefit of these groups when a MASSIVE amount of attendees are not the demographic of said organization and They are simply there to attend one day and that’s it? Most leave and don't contribute until the next year, when they are again forced to join the organization in order to purchase a ticket. There had to be a better way.

Im glad they are doing things in house and inviting the folks they are, basically, wanting to interview ahead of time. And your also inviting the folks you know want to be there. They aren’t at your event also talking to the competition.

Spending $200+ multiple times a year for years on end just to be told “Keep doing what your doing” and seeing no results isn’t the best way.

Again, it’s great they are supporting the things you listed above, but they can also support them without participating, directly, with these job fairs at the same time.
