Here's an interesting take on the origins of many American Whiskeys for you bourbon lovers. Note that the Weller 12-year-old special is just below the Pappy's. Three years ago it was readily available in Virginia stores for the lofty sum of 19 dollars. Now that the secret is out, it is unobtanium in VA except during special online lotteries. Not a drop in Maryland either. But schlep up to Canada and you can buy it all day long for $39 per liter. Something ain't right!

<<"Thanks to the genius’ behind the Guide to Urban Moonshining by Kings Country Distillers David Haskell and Colin Spoelman, you can now see where you favourite American whiskey fits into the catagoury.

Charting the countries major whiskey owners, their respective distilleries and the types of spirits they produce, it’s a brilliant insight into the 14 core distilleries which produce over 100 of the worlds most beloved whiskeys brands.

DC Recommends: Working your way through the tree, starting with Georgia Moon and finishing with the Pappy.>>"

The American Whiskey Family Tree
I believe you’re referencing weller special reserve. It’s a different product than weller twelve. Special reserve has no age statement as it is blended from various barrels of different vintages to maintain a uniform taste profile. Weller 12 is also blended but from only barrels at least 12 yrs old and has never sold at $19/bottle. Both are tasty bourbons though and both have the same mash bill as pappy.

I last saw Weller 12 in a liquor store next to the airport in Lousiville. They had it for around $90 a bottle or so I believe.
