Here’s a link to the infamous PBS segment “Can You Afford to Retire?” that details the Chapter 11 process at United. It will make you sick to your stomach, but will prepare you for what is coming.

Hopefully, we never see CH11 again, but if management and the banks can use it to their advantage, they will.

There’s also an excellent book on this subject by Hedrick Smith: Who Stole the American Dream. The United bankruptcy is explained in chapter eleven in the book.

Thanks for posting this. ALPA ought to send the DVD to every new pilot, at every ALPA airline.

Not to minimize what a bad situation that was, but remember the BK laws have changed drastically since then and it’s a lot harder for them to do now than it was in the early 2000s
