People who freak over a discussion on a given topic shouting that you shouldn’t negotiate in public are kind of like the guard police. They feel that they’re providing a valuable service, but they’re not. Our elected reps or the company don’t look to APC to see where the group stands. Both sides understand what this and other forums really are, an extremely small group of people arguing with each other, not even a close resemblance of where the entire group stands. Discuss all you want, but the only conversation that actually matters is between the company and our union reps. Sport debating can be fun, but at the end of the day we have no input until there is something to vote on.

There is a difference in discussing possible options and running around saying that you’d give X to get Y. Yes, they do look at what is said on the forums, but it’s like listening to a 5 year old. They may be interested in what is said, but they don’t give it much weight.

Go away.
This kind of repetitive posting and spreading of opinions is what causes panic, depression and worse. You should be ashamed.
Go away.

Hi Sentinel, I see you are a seasoned APC vet with 32 posts since joining this month. Of course, at a glance at least 17 of those posts were made since 05:28 this morning. Big John? Tin Cup? We've had quite the rash of inflammatory posts lately from brand spanking new posters. It has gotten tiresome and I've kind of tuned the new guys out. Makes me miss Old Mako even more, sniff...

Everyone new is suspect. Everyone new is not to be trusted. The stress must be making you paranoid. Perhaps it’s time you took a break, my friend.
People join these forums in difficult times to try to get any bit of information they can and try to make sense of all the madness. As for all the posts this morning , I’ll admit I overdid it a bit. An overactive mind and a shelter in place order tend to do that. I apologize if I offended you with my new guy sensibilities.
I’m off to Target this morning. Food and toilet paper running low. Good luck to all.

True. I will bet they underreported deaths by at least half. The Great Wall of China (internet censorship) ensured they could get away with it.

Seriously, you are telling someone to go away because he posts a legitimate news story that does not blown sunshine up you ass. You should be ashamed for burying your head in the sand. You probably think there will be no airline furloughs and hiring will start again this summer.

For Diamond Princess, there was 100% testing; a perfect control group. And everyone was likely exposed to the virus through the ship's air conditioning system.
17% infection rate. 0.5% mortality rate.
And the ages of passengers leaned heavily toward senior citizens so real world numbers are likely lower.
South Korea has done extensive (but not complete) coronavirus testing and has a 0.6% mortality rate.
Just because Italy has a lot of cases doesn't mean that will be replicated; I love Italy but there are a lot of old people and a lot of smokers there. Given the degree of sloth in Italy, I don't believe the hype that they've got a great health care system.

The damage from this will come from the impact on the global economy as a response to the virus, not the actual virus. We could go to zero cases globally in a month, but the recovery could be slow. People all over the world have sunk their life savings into small businesses and restaurants. Many cannot go a month with little or no sales and will not be back. It will take time for others to enter the market and replace those jobs. Looking selfishly at our industry, there will likely be far fewer people coming out of this in a financial position to travel even if the fear is gone. We’re far enough down the rabbit hole now that it doesn’t really matter if the response was justified or hyped up panic. The damage is done.
