Have you even listened to one of the town halls available? They’re almost begging wide body pilots to take the ESRL. 73 hrs to sit at home and not fly on reserve or 55 to move on. Doesn’t take a math major to figure out 18 hrs in savings/month X $351/hr adds up pretty quick.
I’m not going to underestimate how serious this is at the moment, but if they are so desperate to get widebody pilots to take an ESRL, they shouldn’t have come out with the offers that they did. I’m on a SRL for April and I’d bid that as long as possible, however given the enhanced options, this wide body pilot will be bidding reserve. I’d rather stay home than commute to reserve knowing that I won’t fly, I’d also like for the company to save money, but 30-35 hours now, and some more later isn’t going to attract many takers. If they would up their offer to 50 hours with no delayed compensation, they’d save more money than people deciding to deal with reserve rather than accepting these options.

That would be awesome if they did
OFC not. This is UAL. AMR did, and our MEC gave away our normal 50 hr No work lines instead. There are couple Marvin’s who believe it wasn’t a confession because it’s voluntary. Apparently they didn’t read the contract which also states that the 50 hr lines were also voluntary.......

What’s next? International DH in coach for 1/2 pay?

Taking the ERSL for the short term is one thing. However, if I’m 62 right now, let’s suppose that six months from now things have recovered. You propose that I should sit it out at 55 hours / full benefits for two full years and generate zero revenue while doing so? That would be a savings?

We all know this is dire. My biggest heartburn is that the LOA was signed the day BEFORE the CARES act was signed. Why would we cave before we even knew anything? This gives both sides a free pass to come up with a plan for how things are to proceed after.

I agree they should have made it better. It was admitted on the call that if they didn’t get enough takers they’d have to come back with a better deal. We can only hope that enough people don’t.

I too am on an SRL for April. I’m in SC distance (barely) but I can live with our contract 50 hrs. I’m not about to give the company a free unsecured loan until December though with the threat of BK out there if things don’t improve. I lived through BK and have seen what the company will do.

Let’s be realistic. It took 3 years for flying levels to return to the levels that they were pre 9/11. It’s not happening in less than 2.5 after this.

Edited to add a link and correct my post. I thought it was 4 yrs for flying to return but it was 3 yrs. So yes historically speaking UAL could save a TON of money buying out the senior WB CAs.

This has nothing to do with the other post. And in the context you are now using it for, YES you are guilty of contributing to hyperbolic mania out there.

Get over the fear, because life goes on. This will be a distant memory in the near future. Just learn something from it.

Only if you assume they are getting paid 70-75 hours for the same amount of work.

The reality is most likely by September for many any amount of pay will be something to look forward to.

Staunch ALPA guy here, but I have deep scars from previous missteps by the union. The latest feces to drip on our heads (the "enhanced" SRL line scat) should send a tectonic shudder right up your sphincter and into the base of your medulla oblongata.

Welcome back !

When you and I got hired at UAL our Union told us they will look out for us. If we go to work and screw up, we will be held accountable and the tolerances are small. If the Union takes 2% of our salary and screw up by giving away a critical item in the contract, should we turn the blind side and follow their f@@lishness. No, I will hold them accountable as well. I don’t walk in crooked path, nor do I follow guys that walk in crooked path and expect to be happy at the end. We are lucky enough to live in a free country, and we do have the right to question poor decisions. If I’m ever forced to move to Iran, I will watch carefully what I say and do because the laws are not the same.
