Question about Protective Mask Use on the Job

I've been home since the middle of March and haven't been out on the line (SRL for April and May). Just curious, are pilots wearing protective masks from Parking Lot to briefing? If so, what do you do at Security when they look at your picture? Additionally, what about on the flight deck? Just curious.

You’ll see a fair of amount of pilots wearing masks. Clearing KCM they’ll have you lower your mask to check against your ID. I wiped down the flight deck and touch points and removed the mask while on the flight deck. Masked up for the ride to the hotel and when out in public.

This will be my plan also... and if I use our cabin rest seat I’ll wear a mask also.

When FO has flying leg, CA must now quickly sanitize throttles with pre-staged Clorox wipe at V1 before FO touches throttles. If engine fails just after V1 before throttles can be sanitized, either pilot calls “corona failure” to emphasize that in the event of subsequent hull loss, the cause of death for all souls on board should be listed as Covid19.

You don’t even want to hear my new rapid D procedure😜

Seriously, where does this end? If one pilot has it, the other will likely get it. Growing body of actual data detailing the percentage of asymptomatic infections in the population suggests it is widespread but has a lower fatality rate than feared (back towards “its the flu,” but a New/different strain).

Should we have the CA fly every leg or every takeoff to above 2500’ until the throttles can be wiped down with 70% alcohol (now 60% unless you only have a sanicom)? I just don’t think the masks matter...or the temperature checks. Makes some feel better I guess.

Not a UAL guy, but I flew with someone that ended up on a ventilator two weeks later. I’m wearing a mask at work specifically to protect myself and vice versa from each other. They’re by far the closest contact we deal with. Plus we’re spitlling all day long up there talking to each other. If I depress I’ll rip it off.

If he dies, it will be the vent that kills him. The data is pretty clear on that.

This sounds reasonable and likely along the lines of how I'll play it on an upcoming trip. One question though. What did you do with the mask after you removed it in the pit? Did you discard it and grab a new one on arrival, or try to carefully stow it somehow safely not allowing anything to contact the inside, then reuse?

ziplock bags, i brought enough with me for a 4-day trip and swapped out every day.

I carry a small spray bottle full of alcohol and spray mine before/after use...evaporates pretty quickly and I’d like to think kills most stuff on it.

I do too. What brand do you use? I’m using Tito’s.
