Default AA VS UAL Approach

AA is in much greater financial troubles than UAL. However, they are treating the situation very differently.

AA DUI jail time CEO has claimed

No Bankruptcy

No Furloughs

New hire class training has resumed

UAL

Expect furloughs

Bankruptcy possible

Cut salaries

Useless training has stopped

Either AA peeps are going to be broadsided badly or everything over there is gum drops and rainbows

Haha

He has 3 DUI served a night in jail for pleading guilty and is unable to drive himself anywhere...but what about his leadership approach to this crisis...his tv appearances lately make no sense to the pain they are financially facing over there

Visiting a buddy right now in Kentucky who flys with American. He confirmed that their next new hire class is set to resume by July at the latest. So definitely good news there.

So it is not really a new hire class. This is the class we took on board because we would have cancelled on them within one week of class. So we have been paying them to do nothing. A lot of people are hoping this means no furloughs but I remain unconvinced as airlines have wasted money in the past though I am hopeful as well all are. Our debt has extremely AA friendly loans and we don’t have to service most of it until late in the decade. We are not quite on the financial life support seeking alpha would have you believe. That said we are still over staffed by 1300 next summer so who knows. We will retire north of 1000 pilots in 2020.

It’s the class that was postponed from March. This is really only big mews if classes continue indefinitely which there’s no indication they will beyond this one.

An AA guy can chime in and correct me, but I believe that newhire class was sent home being paid anyway the training guarantee. It’s not a new fresh class.

You are correct. The reason it made news was why train them to furlough them a month later.

It is strange how us and them are on different courses.
Got to wonder how much of the Parker/Kirby hatred is fueling this.
Bringing a new hire class in for training is literally nuts if they are planning to furlough them in 2 months.
Not that I wouldn't put it past management.. but you have to admit it's strange.

Crazy F'ing times~

Add to it for the first time they denied extra early outs. Crazy times indeed. They only offered 55 this month and only on dead fleets
