Holy Cow!! I didn’t realize we were discussing some esoteric sheet that required advanced learning, I thought it was a bunch of guys who’ve been screwed before trying to imagine how they’re gonna get screwed this time Sounds like pretty basic blue collar union vs management stuff to me.
Save a few of the overly analytical types, most of this stuff is High school economics and basic corporate greed/c-suite protectionism. I think anybody who can get a private license could understand and discuss this stuff after a single 4-day trip. Believing somebody that has been in this industry for at least a year couldn’t understand our current dilemmas is giving your cerebral abilities far more credit than they deserve.
now, to say experience doesn’t count for something would be false, but many people came out of the lost decade like an abused rescue dog: you can’t recognize threats very well and default to fear (manifested in Internet bravado and pessimism) rather than attempting to accurately assess the situation.
when everything is a threat, nothing is a threat. If you don’t get that, you’re probably gonna miss the warning signs when Management really comes for you....

My only complaint with the guy is coming to another company’s forum and basically arguing against what our MEC has claimed is the case. Kinda feels like a person WANTS the company to screw everybody when they hold a position like that. We have guys with DECADES of time at THIS company, and I’m more interested in their opinion of how things are likely to occur. Not to say that a dude from another company can’t come here and have their stance, but maybe not try to be an authority where you don’t have any status. I post on other company’s forums, but I don’t repeatedly act like I’m an expert on their SOPs and contracts. With one exception......the company I worked at for over a decade before I worked here.

I am making no such argument. Nor did I realize this forum is where your MEC makes official pronouncements about whether COVID was an act of God or not. Since the contract was quoted I was pointing out a separate clause that might apply such that the act of God clause need to apply to offer the company relief. That’s all. Nothing more. Nothing implied.
Seek life elsewhere!
This is a public forum and no MEC member will be showing up, hopefully.

(the UAL MEC) have a more optimistic take on it and their lawyers believe they have a good case in the event that management wants to fight. We can borrow trouble from tomorrow and play the what if game but that is what we are being told. We are talking about .5 months per year of longevity in furlough pay and we have people counting on that money. Some people are dealing with this in different ways so please take whatever is said in your direction with a grain of salt. Wish you the best in your career!

I think you're ok. Everyone is a little touchy right now and we are attempting to respect the process and our MEC. They

If Kirby loses the act of god then he will be forced to staff for summer 2021 and that will drop the furlough count and reverse some displacements. So that’s why I’m looking at furlough pay.
