Looking at the bottom ~3000 numbers there are roughly 800 bus FOs 600ish 756? Plus the assorted left seats and wide body. Sure there are more 737 fos than anything else but there are plenty of seats scattered around in that seniority range.

This has to be fake news. It's not 1700 on Friday yet.

What if a substantial amount of pilots bypass recall? They’re certainly making bold assumptions that those of us furloughed would just happily immediately return for another kick in the jimmies.

I could almost buy that 20-07D was a move to position bodies into the NB FO seat in case we actually have to furlough a large number in Oct since it could be relatively easy to undo it in the next few months.. Now 20-08D looks more like a fundamental resizing of the airline. If Kirby is serious about positioning us for emerging opportunity, then I only see a single reason for this deep cut to NB Captains - and that's to 'soften us up' for concessions. I could be wrong, and I'm hoping to see a more positive analysis here.

I don’t think they are as worried about that as much as stopping the bleeding. Once the government cheese runs out, they are going to aggressively do what they need to do to accomplish that goal. They can deal with the expense of recall when revenue is back. Unfortunately for us, I think that Carlson is really good at what he does, and we will be unpleasantly surprised how fast they can get things done. I also think that we have a pretty good group of people working in our union who are definitely looking out for our best interest. This isn’t just the cyclical kick in the jimmies, it is a knife to the gut.

Only 3600 Captain's. How many were there before COVID-19?

5196, so pretty much exactly a 30% cut. At least on paper.

Once that is set in motion it's easy for the company to either cancel displacements or cut further as required for demand.

Seems to me they’re only positioning for a snapback in demand if that demand spike happens soon enough to cancel displacements. Beyond that we’re 30%+ smaller and losing ground to others.
