In the latest earnings release, UA has stated they want to reduce their cost structure by $2 billion in the next year. Wonder what ideas Kirby has to accomplish that goal!!!!!

You are also conveniently leaving out the part where he stated they already found 1.4B in savings and they weren’t looking for concessions

The first part is in the second paragraph of the earnings report you referred to in your original post:

Over the last three quarters, the company has identified $1.4 billion of annual cost savings and has a path to achieve at least $2.0 billion in structural reductions moving forward.

I read an article that they saved somewhere around 80k a year from not serving cocktail picks anymore and 290,000 from using lighter weight paper on board, thus reducing costs on fuel. I’m sure lots of little things like that add up.

Also, per our lease agreement for Willis Tower, United is reducing the number of floors it uses for management and administration support staff from 17 to 14. Will take about a year to determine where the various departments and staff will move to within the building before the three floors are returned to the owner. Reduction in space needed is because of the reduction in staff and management at Willis.

I remember press releases from last time the airlines were preparing for BK saying they'd save over $1Million a year in fuel/ weight savings by getting rid of newspapers and magazines on the planes......

Don’t confuse numbers that are published to obtain something (promotions, bonuses, investors, performance ratings, etc) compared to actual measurable numbers that provide proof of performance. Saving fuel due to the weight of napkins and the such probably falls in the former category.

Gee, somehow I don’t remember Tilton talking about much about cocktail napkins and magazines during times of weak demand and high fuel prices. He seemed to be quite interested in us though.

To a contractual extent. Beyond that, “morale is not my problem.”
