1,500 Pilots
#21
Wasn’t it just 6 months ago the company was threatening to furlough a third of its pilots? And now we’re hiring....potentially 1500?
I don’t mean to turn this into another LOA debate, but it’s important to remember how this turn of events played out when the company threatens to furlough massive numbers next time.

Nice work. You should run for rep.

And then its conclusion plays out in slow motion. The ending is usually predictable if you've paid attention to history.

Also, an ancillary issue is the removal of high priced labor off the top of the seniority list. Company saves big money if it has a younger pilot group. Less vacation and less sick time usage. More productivity for cheaper labor. Lots of studies out on this stuff.
If the company could push 2000 more ultra senior pilots out the door without sacrificing schedule integrity it would do so.

I would argue our timeline would be significantly pushed back if the LOA didn’t pass. 1/3 of our pilots would have been furloughed. That means at least a year to get our pilots trained up again. With the LOA passed no one got furloughed and we can start hiring right away.

No not free. But a good estimate is 35 cents on the dollar for savings. There has got to be a Fed Govt. subsidy component to it that makes it very cost effective.
