Default CAL strike info

I have a question about the cal strike and the scabs. I am not trying to stir up poopoo or get into a debate, just asking for factual information. If a current UAL pilot who is on the Cal scab list has a hire date of sometime in 1985, does that mean that pilot was an off the street hire toward the end of the strike? What would be the hire date of a pilot who was employed prior to the strike and crossed the line some time during the strike?

It was before my time, but this document is available online for reference. I’ve flown with people who assumed somebody is a scab based on DOH, and I’ve checked the list to see if they were on it. Somebody who knows more than me can probably speak to the validity of this list, but I would certainly hate to be falsely accused of such a thing.

Someone hired before 1983 would be already employed at the time of the strike. Anyone hired 1985 signed themselves up knowing full well they were crossing a picket line.

Let me clarify a little more, trying to determine if a pilot who was a cal pilot before the strike and then subsequently crossed would have their hire date adjusted for some reason? Or if it’s safe to assume that a pilot with a hire date after the strike began was in fact off the street and indeed knew that they were being hired to break the strike.

The latter. Those hired before the strike who crossed were labeled “crawl backs” by some, but did not ever have there hire dates adjusted to 1985.

Cal was a hodgepodge of different airlines and a date of hire during the strike doesn’t necessarily mean that they were involved with the strike or employed by Cal at the time. The list on the other hand....... they’re all guilty as hell.

agreed, I have a small (very small) amount of sympathy for those who walked the line for a year or so and then went back, but no sympathy what so ever for a 25 year old off the street hire who took the job knowing full well they were crossing the picket line....

I don’t think we have any Bob Six CAL pilots left on the list. All the remaining scabs were off the street scum/opportunists and we have almost a decade before the last one retires.

I wonder if anyone has ever compiled a current/airline specific version of this. A lot of the guys on this list are from other airlines, retired, or dead. I don’t know how many remain on property today.
