If the leave happens after you consolidate in the aircraft (first 100 hours) no one cares. If it’s before you consolidate, it may trigger extra training events, but you are protected by law. Speak with your union rep after day 1 of BI.

Anybody with a cjo should really go to the facebook united pilot newhire half wingers group like many have suggested. You can privately ask questions or seek out advice from a very diverse group. Once you are onboard the union PDR is great for answering the hard questions, the forums are for ****ing off people with no sense of humor, and facebook is a toss up of misinformation and the right answer.

Taking mil leave in your first year isn't a big deal. It might not be something you want to openly disclose during the interview but that might be a better question for a prep company
It may delay your probationary year as there are hour requirements and month calculations. Probation isn't a big deal but it does bite the random person. I have a feeling the story above has a lot more to it than what it appears at face value.

What fleets? Senior?

Gracias
Very common (pre-COVID) for reserves on short call to get assigned a 4 day out of another base when its busy (Dec/Jun-Aug). That usually means DH on Day 1 and 6 with a 4 day trip crammed in the middle. IAD and EWR are super fat on reserves and we are starting to get assigned DEN trips pretty regularly.

^^^ plenty of people take mil leave during probation. If you are gone for multiple bid periods, it can extend your time on probation, but that’s about it. Not something to highlight at an interview, but as soon as you are an employee… all of the normal USERRA protections are in place.

Be very careful about the Facebook group. Lots of bad info there. I would advocate reading your contract, and talking to your mentor. Mentor will be able, in most cases, to answer any questions you might have, or point you in the right direction.

I learned quickly that no one wears a uniform to TK for recurrent.

Business casual. As for late night sims, ask your instructor about more casual wear.

during Indoc pilots will normally be seen wearing biz casual... after Indoc (aircraft training) you’ll see more casual clothing to include jeans and pullovers.

More relaxed business casual, if that’s a thing.
