ive not seen evidence of such. Would be happy to be proven wrong

but ultimately they need butts in seats and the noob load to match sim availability. Needs of the Air Force is going to quickly keep everyone from getting a fighter

They will be offering 777 and 787 FO in SFO, EWR and DCA.

Also 757/767, Airbus, and 737 is almost every base we fly them.

Seems like new hires will have a lot of choices in 2022 after having 1,200 vacancies. There won’t be any direct Captain hires, despite the unfilled bids because the contract prohibits it. Many of the May 2021 hires will be eligible to start bidding Captain in the Summer of 2022 after they get off probation.
The issue that I have with this development is that we will be shortly injecting some really new United and potentially new 121 pilots into the left seat at United. I know the experience of our average new hire is very high. That said, we could conceivably have a new hire get 3 landings on IOE as a 777 f/o and that's it. No additional domestic experience other than observed entries into SFO (for instance) as a bunkie, then they are a Guppy or Airbus Captain with a similarly inexperienced brand new F/O in a base like SFO or EWR. Just seems like a big ask depending on experience to keep the operation safe.

It’s not like a LCA will just sign them off as soon as they have the minimum hours. The sign off means that they’re ready and if it takes someone a few more hours to get there, the training department and LCA’s will make sure that they get the time and training that they need to be safe and comfortable. Like you said, we don’t hire inexperienced pilots.

Did you just coin a new term? Wtf is a Y2Captain? Is it those poor saps hired 99-01 who took 18 years to upgrade or something?

My advice would be to take one of the narrow body spots. I would do that to get used to the operation and learn how things work. You can always bid up to wide body FO any time there's a bid. If you take the wide body spot initially, you're stuck if you don't like it, or don't like being on reserve, or whatever. The narrow body spot gives you a lot more options. Of course, you have to do what's best for you and your family, but that's my advice.

Looks like they took your advice. There were 4 WBFO positions offered in Tuesday’s class. The only 787 FO was taken by pilot #6 (out of 62 new hires). The bottom pilot got the last plane available. A 777 FO out of EWR. He will be on reserve for a long time!

Do you happen to know what the other offerings were. Somebody elsewhere said only 756/777/787 which I find hard to believe. 62 new hires need to be spread out across as many fleets as possible to keep the whole thing moving.

With as backed up as OEs have been, next summer is going to be very interesting!!! Folks that start in March won't be available till after the summer at this rate

737/320 in pretty much every base. 756 in every base but DEN and IAH. 777/787 in DCA/EWR/SFO
