Record numbers of UAL pilots on Reserve
#21
To all the new guys: The company sets whatever policy/rule they want that isn't covered by the contract. If it's not in the contract, suck it up. So.....to all those that say reserve is a choice? Maybe not so much. Reserve rules important?? Absolutely. The TA reserve rules improvements were a joke. We need specifically defined accountability for the crew desk. Incentive won't count when then can do whatever they want at whatever cost they decide.
Start with accountability for the crew desk. The G-line in a horrible bidding system is a constantly moving target. If you want something different, tell your LEC, write a resolution for direction to the negotiating committee.

Do I still get to worship at the alter of PP? Let's stick with the blocking & tackling and improve the core UPA items ( the stuff that Joe Schmuckatelli gets month after month...). The company just did us a HUGE favor by showing that THEY control premium pay....

forget to mention, guys dumping trips just to pick them up at 100%. It's a strange time for sure..but trip trading was not envisioned with a global pandemic in mind. Also, LSM's completely dropping ball on hiring LCA's. Airbus LSM was just demoted. Not sure how ass kissing morons get into these types of positions. Our costs were up 33% Q2. 17% of that was fuel.

I wanna say I remember seeing "81-83 variable" or some such other.
RE: recovering what was lost, run the COL/inflation numbers on C2000. I seem to have lost the copy I had, but pulling from an older post;
UAL C2000 777 CA, 297.20. Put that into the calculator for 2022, $511
UAL C2000 756 CA, 242.55. 2022 = $416
UAL C200 756 FO, 165.66. 2022 = $283
Airbus CA 2000, 232.59. 2022 = $399
Airbus FO 2000, 158.86 2022 = $271

When we pay banded all the 757s and Airbus down to guppy pay it pulled down the pay on those planes. At the time it was the right thing to do because one side was shooting for a “pay rate” SLI which didn’t work. I was in the EWR union meeting when someone pointed out that the paybands hurt the overall pilot group and the C5 Chairman response was “contracts come and go but the SLI will last forever”.
We even screwed over the other airlines, because they matched our dumb pay rates (for the most part) so we aren’t getting those rates back.

The G-line is a ridiculous concept. It forces PBS into a global solution and overrides seniority for the bottom half of line holders. If you were guaranteed a line upon bidding a BES then it would be worth it. But you're not. The G-line slides every month so we only get the bad consequences in PBS. It's okay to have lots on reserve, BTW. That's just more pilots. What's not okay is maxing out our schedules to do it. We need 15 days off minimum.

my previous airline had nothing in place of a g line. You either got a line or you didn’t as bidding was run. There was kind of a guess about where the reserve lines would start, but that was it

Previous airline made around 80% of the base lineholders and the rest of the open trips were run again in a secondary bid later in the month. You now know the quality of the trips left over with a more clear understanding of where you stand with those that bid down to reserve. It helped around the holidays. Our current system of random junior people holding lines due to carry in or training when people senior would have gladly taken that crappy line is seniority abrogation. You can waive everything and someone junior to you gets a line of 87 hrs of flying because jeppesen "is the best for us" bs
