LAX Commuter Recommendations

Just wondering if folks commuting to LAX can offer some suggestions (other than don’t do it!) regarding recommended hotels, crashpads, costs, any other suggestions and tips, etc.

LAX seems harsh for commuters, as the entire surrounding area is high-crime, the hotels aren’t the easiest to get to, not much to do, and e pensive.

Also, how much flying are you doing out of SNA and ONT, especially those on reserve? Any recommendations for the best way to get to those airports is also appreciated.

The areas around LAX are not high crime…

Playa Vista, Westchester, El Segundo, and Manhattan Beach are all very nice areas. Inglewood and Hawthorne have gentrified rapidly over the last 10 years and I’d feel safe sending anyone to walk around alone, at night, anywhere, in any of those cities.

I am extraordinarily familiar with the area around LAX and the whole of Los Angeles, just not as an airline commuter. The areas you mention to the west and southwest are fairly nice, but not places one will be spending time as a commuter. Think mostly traveling on foot between hotels, food, the store, shuttle or Uber to and from the airport.

The other areas you mentioned, not so much. While I appreciate the response, I will have to disagree with your assessment.

Which part of El Segundo is nice?

You can just walk to dozens of hotels. They’re extremely easy to get to.

A quick look at Redfin today shows El Segundo housing prices from 1.43 Million to 30 Million… That’s the west side of El Segundo. The east side is white collar office complexes (Boeing, Raytheon, AT&T, LA Times, etc…). I would say all of El Segundo is nice.

Fairfield inn El Segundo.
Fast food, coffee shop, Grocery store, shuttles.
Great neighborhood to take a run/walk through behind the hotel, all the way to beach if you want.

Good info. Any ideas on crew rates or codes we can use when booking?

A good gym would be most welcome, as well.

It's a Marriott property, so there's always the UAL code.

Where would I find that? Looked at the employee discount section on FT, no luck.
