Reserve pool/Drops
So, for those of you that have been around here longer than I have, is it normal for there to be 30+ more reserves than open trips and the grid still be red? This is insane. No one in my BES got a drop approved for the first week of September. I’ve put in a drop request for every single trip I’ve had this year and it has never stuck. 25ish days of red coverage even with 20+ reserves each day before the month even starts. I thought we were winding down the schedule a bit and adding more reserves?

They’re doing this on purpose. I had better schedule flexibility at my regional. I cannot do anything here.

First week of September, you talking about a holiday weekend? Ain’t happening. I didn’t get mine either. As far as the other drops, best bet is to have the drops in prior to the 24th, which sounds like is the case, seeing as how today is the 24th. Also if you see someone sr. wants your trip, submit the drop. 1 and 2 day trips have a higher success rate from what I’ve experienced, small sample size though.
we really gotta get this stuff addressed in a TA. They shouldn’t be able to arbitrarily ramp up the number of “required reserves” so that no one can drop anything. Make it some sort of formula, 1 reserve for every x number of trips that leave that day up to a certain amount, mutually agreed upon exceptions for days with a history of higher than average sick calls. |

I mean, 30 more reserves than trips? I wasn’t expecting to get my drop but I also wasn’t expecting not a single drop to get approved at any seniority with that level of reserve coverage. Same with the rest of the month. Random Wednesdays with 20+ reserves but still negative.

it’s because all of us on reserve without trips (those extra 20+) are getting put on short calls and field standby.

Because they can. That's why I was hopeful the TA would address the crew desk issues. But, alas, the important stuff wasn't addressed.
