Glad they used their brainpower on such an important section of the contract .

No change to the PBS/G-line logic though that robs seniority from just about everyone monthly instead of a few fringe cases.

This is the same mentality that the NC used for years to avoid us getting Bad Day Worse Day. The realty is there are a few people in high places and influence within ALPA Leadership that have angst against it (see GJ - EWR CA Rep) and kept the airline hostage for their little crusade.

I really appreciate the info, thank you everyone. I have no qualms at all bidding 737/320 to get closer to family and drive to work, the rest will come later.

I may have missed it, but what is upgrade time in IAH? I’m also looking at United as I want to live on the north side of Houston. I hear all the time about unfilled captain vacancies and 1 year upgrades at United

NB captain went to 12507. That’s about 18-24 months in IAH. Before that bid it was closer to 6 years. Just over a year ago it was around 10. So it’s rapidly changing.

so if I’m understanding you properly, 1.5-2 years on property and declining rapidly?

My guess is some captain vacancy’s will go unfilled in the next year.

well I appreciate your guess but I’m mostly just curious what upgrade is at IAH today. The most junior captain TODAY. You said 18-24 months in IAH. Ppl are getting it out of training.

So the most junior captain in IAH is 1.5 - 2 years on property?

Jeez...when I started working here people were happy just to get hired.

Yes.

United has a 1 year (and 500 hour) minimum for upgrade. Several bids ago there were NB captain slots that went unfilled in junior bases. Put another way, anyone could upgrade with the minimum time. The "time to upgrade" was just a function of whoever was the most junior person to request it.

A couple bids ago those unfilled slots progressed to Chicago and Denver. On the most recent bid United awarded MANY more captain slots in Houston than they advertised because that was the only place left with eligible bidders. Nothing went unfilled in Houston but they awarded down to rough seniority level other bases saw with unfilled slots. It's very likely another bid will put the upgrade time right at minimums for all hubs.

There are also MANY more captains than FO's in IAH which should be interesting.
