QOL at IAD
Hi all,
Been searching but haven't found anything recent... can anyone comment on QOL as a new hire at the IAD domicile? Mostly curious about typical schedule on different fleets, days on/off, how long to hold a line (NB vs WB). Also I understand that NB CA can be held pretty quickly, but what's the QOL as a junior CA? How long to hold a line in the left seat? Thanks! |

NB capt line holder is probably a 2014-2015 hire. WB FO line holder is 2018-2019 hire and they get 16-17 days off. |
Along those same lines: as a 320 FO, are you mainly used at IAD, DCA, or a random mix of both? Just trying to see if it’s more advantageous to live on the East or west side of the river.

Are you commuting or living in domicile? If you're a commuter remember you need to cover IAD, DCA and BWI which can be difficult and expensive if you don't have a car, although it's easier to get around now that the metro expansion to IAD is complete.

Sorry I should have said that... I live in domicile, ~30 mins to IAD or DCA, about 1 hr to BWI. No prob to drive any of them.
roughly a 70/20/10 % split. But varies month to month. the Bus also does very few, if any, redeyes back to IAD. (Might get a mid pairing redeye) |

I will piggy back on this topic. How about a commuter? I am a 777 guy commuting from Florida. Besides small seniority drop and less flight options, IAD is a shorter commute with a much better run operation. I am tired or EWR and constant delays and no gate availability. I am considering the move to IAD.

Where do you live in Florida?

If you live in base and can tolerate the global reserve shenanigans - DCA756 is a really good mix of Europe/Domestic flying. Good enough that it takes awhile to get a line and people will be bidding in above you but still better than slogging out 4 day domestics.
